You can install tag manager on any website.

Simply follow the manual installation instructions and add the scripts in the theme.

Hello, @rontobb.

This is Elias from Shopify Support. I'd be happy to lend a hand with this!

I understand you're looking for an integration to track your conversions with Google Tag Manager. While you are correct to assume that Google Tag Manager is only available on Shopify Plus, as that's the only way you can get access to checkout.liquid. However, you can also use a third-party app, such as Easy Tag ‑ GTM & Data Layer or Elevar Tag Management Suite, to track your conversions. If you need any assistance with third-party apps, the app developers are always available to help and you can reach out to them directly through the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.

I'd love to know if one of these apps can help you accomplish this. Let me know!

Hi, @rontobb.

Thank you for following up!

Access to the checkout.liquid for Shopify Plus is required if you're looking to embed snippets of codes for Google Tag Manager into your checkout. However, these third-party apps do function differently, as they can provide the required data layers and the ability to link with your Google Tag Manager. Since these are third-party apps and I'm unable to explain how each of them work, I'd recommend reaching out to the app developers to get a deeper context for how they work. You can always reach out to the developers through the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.

I'd love to know if the developers can give you more context. Keep me posted!

Hi

Thank you for the reply

Shopify seems all about making it easy and integrated

So why is it so difficult to add "basic"  functionality of adding a code snippet to checkout.liquid  to embed snippets of codes for Google Tag Manager into your checkout.

its seems like a lot of hoops to jump thru for what should be "Insert your check out tag here"

Is this on a roadmap , and can it be accelerated ?

Hi, @rontobb.

Thank you for sharing this feedback!

I understand how important this is to you and I'd be happy to share your feedback with our developers as a feature request. While this isn't something that I can give a time frame for, as platform changes can take an unprecedented amount of time. However, if Shopify moves forward with this feature, we'll be sure to announce them on our changelog or updates page.

If you have any other questions on this topic, don't hesitate to let me know!
