Have I messed up?

I paid someone to change up my website, they did , they also said they implemented SEO.

I have recently changed the website myself because I didn't enjoy it , and added new products.

I got a message from the person I paid saying that I would need to change things , and fix my robots.txt. I dont have any money but could have me changing all of that make a actual effect on it in a bad way?

Hi there,

I am sorry to tell you that this person is most likely not properly skilled. SEO is a build in thing at Shopify and you can not change your robots.txt.

If you need any more work done or need someone else to have a look, I'd be happy to help!

Best wishes,
Thom Knepper - Athom.Agency

Hi @TrueForm3D 👋 as long as the site was setup properly adding new products should NOT necessitate new SEO customizations.

Takes money to make money isn't just some cliched phrase.

Your gonna have a hard time avoiding failure in ecommerce when the business cannot afford even basic health checks.

The harsh reality is you need to be able to invest in multiple opinions to make better informed decisions.

If unable to afford informed decisions your likely hemorrhaging money due to inability to properly invest in things like marketing or SEO that generates sales leading to worse outcomes and even less ability to invest... ad nauseum.

This is a spiral merchants need to make sure they are not being sucked into.
