Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I want to add a custom message to the check out process... I want to make sure customers know that we only ship on Monday & Thursday (so they don't excpect their items sooner). I cannot find any way to do this! Help!!

Hi everyone,
I know this thread is old, but I found a way to add a message under the 'Shipping method' without needing to upgrade. So I'll share it here for others in the future.
So basically, in Shopify settings, you can edit the phrases that are displayed for certain texts, including those on the shipping page.
From your Shopify home, click Settings (bottom left corner) -> Checkout -> Checkout language / Manage checkout language (button)
This will bring you to a long list of texts that you can update. It's quite long, so you should ⌘f and look for 'shipping method notice'.
This was empty when I found it, and once I added text here, it showed up on checkout page like a charm.
Hi Amanda,
Nick here from Shopify.
Great question and for a great reason. The only way you would be able to edit the checkout for a custom message such as this, you would need to be on the Shopify Plus plan. There are a couple of workarounds for this though. The most popular and common workaround is to add a note to the product page description. I completely understand if this is not ideal, but other than going to the Plus Plan this would definitely be your best bet.
Another potential workaround is to add a small note to your Shipping rate details at the check out as seen here.
These are the most cost efficient options for you on this. It might be worth reaching out to a Shopify expert to look into adding something for you as a small task.
If you have any other questions about anything else, please don't hesitate to ask.
All the best, Nick

That's not really helpful at all. I've seen threads on the forums where people have asked similar questions, and Shopify programmers were able to go in and change the code for them. Why is that not a possibility?
I'm so unhappy with Shopify. Right now...my business is fairly small. I don't really have a better option, and therefore will be staying with Shopify. However, I would NEVER recommend it to anyone...and the moment I have a better option...I'll be leaving.
Hi Amanda,
Shopify will assist and make changes when it's possible. In this instance being able to edit the checkout is something which is just not possible unless you are on the Plus plan. It would be the same for any other store not on this Plus plan.

You can add a cusotm message to your cart page, above the checkout button if you wish.
alternatively after checkout on their order status page you can add a custom message stating the estimated delivery.
or change the email notification they recieve to state the estiamted delivery.
You may be restricted by shopify when it comes to the checkout, however this doesn't prevent you from conveying this information to customers at another point in the process.
How? How can someone do any of the things you said we can do?

This was super helpful, thanks!
Let's hope they don't find this workaround and patch it out of the free plan 😉
THIS WORKS
Thank-you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this!
Thanks for this, we have used it to add a note at checkout about non-UK customers being responsible for paying local taxes. A simple fix that will save hours of headaches...
Very much appreciated.
@helloworley you're a godsend, shame on the literal Shopify developer in this thread for not recommending this super easy workaround. I was literally just trying to figure out where I would go to edit this exact text (I'm setting up a site for healthcare workers to order personalized scrubs through and the orders are being bulk shipped once per month to a single location at the hospital, so I just wanted to add an informational message on the checkout page where they're inputting "shipping info" (even though I selected that it's not a physical product, so they shouldn't have to put in shipping info??), that the info is being collected for billing purposes only and the scrubs will be shipping to X Office where they can be picked up on a certain day of every month). I knew it was an easy fix and it's absolutely ridiculous that Shopify is hiding something so simple behind a $2,000/month Plus plan.
Does this work still? I cannot find this option in checkout language, it seems they have removed it or something.
It does work, just had to look up the initial thing he said a little different. I cant remember off the top but it was a slight variation i did that got it to pop up.
Thanks! Just adding this in here... It didn't pull up for me either at first - had to go searching. For others reading this, if you type in the search bar "notice" - scroll to the 4th section down "Checkout Shipping" and you'll find "Shipping Method Notice."
you made my day, thanks!
I found the section called "Shipping Method Notice," but it's not showing up on my checkout page. Any ideas why that would be?
u doin something wrong. followed the steps of the last guy and was able to redo it. Try harder.
THANK YOU! Looks like they've changed it a bit since you first posted, but it's still under "Shipping Method Notice" at least.
But good gravy, what a terrible UI design, even for that backend... you need to scroll so far down through their Infinite Scroll to even be able to use search for "Shipping Method Notice" to show up as a search result, I had assumed maybe they removed that section at first. NOPE! Just terrible scrolling design, whomever thought Infinite Scroll was a good idea I hope is no longer with the design team because they must not have ever used it.
Hi, might anyone have a version of this for the Dawn theme? I have followed the steps there is definitely no 'Shipping Method Notice' option that appears as an option for me...
Hope you can help!
J.
I did this for a paid theme, i think you got it
Sorry, I don't understand that answer?
Bro,
there is nothing different about your theme. The languages for your checkout are the same across all themes hence why Shopify's checkout looks the same everywhere. You should dive a little harder at it and follow the advice of the comments as multiple solutions have been givin.
Ok so just so you know this is extremely inconvenient for me to figure out for you but since your helpless I figured I'd go through the trouble to demonstrate how easy it is to do things when following instructions.
step 1. Go to 'Edit languages' by your current theme 'Dawn' (which I am testing on)
step 2. search 'notice' as indicated by previous commentor
step 3. scroll down to section 'Checkout shipping'
step 4. youll see 'Shipping method notice' and you can enter your own custom text to see the image attached.
Literally took me 5 seconds to figure out. So much for 12 years
I want THE CUSTOMER to be able to add a custom message.
That's not what this thread is for. This thread is so the shop owner can add a custom message on the checkout page that doesn't change. I believe you want something like this...? https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/themes-by-shopify/vintage-themes/customizing-...
Thank you, however, neither of those Cart elements are present in the Dawn theme, despite Shopify saying that all free themes offer Order Notes.
Thanks anyway!
