How can I add color swatches to the Dawn theme without using third-party apps?

Hi guys,

I am trying to add color swatches to show color variants on my product page on the Dawn theme. 

After searching online I found some videos and guides but none of them is working with the current version. 

I am wondering if anyone can help with that...?

I will also add that I don't want to use any third-party apps.
