Hi, @le_X_Atelier_.

Thanks for sharing your question with our network.

Shopify themes available on our Theme Store are eligible for automatic theme updates, however, can only be executed when your theme code is in its' original state. This means that you haven't installed any apps that made code changes, nor have you made any manual edits, including modified translations in the language editor.

Any customizations made in the Theme Editor for Online Store 2.0 themes should copy over to updated themes, with a few extenuating circumstances that include new or updated settings.

In your case I recommend performing a manual update and then re-configuring apps you plan to keep, and re-adding any custom code.

I trust that helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

I contacted Shopify support on February 9 about a number of bugs and content disappearing when updating from Dawn version 7.0 to 8.0.  The support representative could clearly see the problems I identified.  Well today, I went back to see if a fix was available and now, updates suddenly are disabled supposedly because I changed the code (I DID NOT TOUCH THE CODE OR INSTALL A NEW APP)...  The impact of this is that I lose all my theme translations and must manually add back some lost content.  I'm really disappointed (polite version)...

I would say the only fix in your case if you actually changed the code would be to start over with the updated theme which is just as painful as my situation.

Good luck!

Hi,

Oh gosh glad to see I'm not the only frustrated one around this issue! I am stuck on Dawn 2.0 due to adding my own code when it didn't update automatically. We as store holders are not told that this is the result of adding code or apps! Hummf Slightly relived I'm not the only one that's frustrated...

Thank you for adding your feedback to this thread, @LittleGoddess!

In your case, I would recommend doing a manual theme update as per the instructions above. Please let me know if you're able to try that and the results.

I look forward to your reply,

I tried to do a manual update for the Modular Theme this afternoon so that I could change the size of my logo, but there is nothing to let me know whether there is an update or not.  I did not add any code and the theme itself seems to be in its original state.  BTW, I have not yet published (pay for too) my new website using this theme, so could that be why the update is not available to me just yet?  Thank you for any light you can shine onto my issue here.

Hey Le_X_Atelier_ 👋

The Theme Updater Shopify App now supports updating the Shopify Dawn theme without losing your custom settings or code customizations! It's fully automated, so you just click a button and the app will transfer everything over for you.

We made the app to save merchants time – especially since Shopify releases a new version of Dawn roughly every 2 months!

Let me know if you have any questions! 🙂
