How can I control the sort order of products within collections through CSV import?

Hi there,

I am dealing with 5,000 products in around 15 collections on my Shopify site, and sometimes when I upload new products I'd like to insert them into a specific position in their respective product gallery. I'd also like to re-order them when uploading existing products, in some cases. This ordering comes from an offline source and is not related to product names, prices, dates added, or any other sort method I can see in the regular collection sorting feature. 

Manually re-ordering items is a bit of a nightmare when you're dealing with so many products.

Is there any way to overcome this?

Is this really not possible?? Seems very shortsighted on Shopify's part
