You can add a note in add to card page.

Instead of adding this feature on your checkout page, it'll appear within your store's cart page. The reason for this is due to a store's checkout being a secured page, the source code is not made available to be edited. Customisations to a checkout page are therefore, very limited. This helps ensure that the information inputted on checkout for both merchants and customers remains safe at all times.


Order notes can be enabled in the Cart theme settings. Follow the steps below, or refer to your theme's documentation for more information about how to find this setting in your theme.


  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Online store.

  3. Click Open sales channel.

  4. Click Themes.

  5. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.

  6. Click Theme settings > Cart.

  7. Check Enable cart note.

  8. Click Save.


If the option above doesn't quite meet your needs, you can also look into installing a third-party app that will help you add specific notes on your cart page. An app such as this one, is worth taking a look at in case they suit your needs better. Just a note however that these apps are made by third-party developers outside of Shopify. So if you have any questions about them, you can get in touch with the app developers directly, as they are best equipped to answer app-specific queries.

I was wondering if the checkout page restrictions you talked about are still at place or if one can add the Order Note to the checkout page now (in any theme, not just SENSE).
