Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi Everyone!
We recently switched to the Dawn theme (loving it so far!) but we were trying to change the text that appears in the SALE badge on products on the collections pages. Our last theme allowed us to show a "save $xxx" text in this badge instead which we were hoping to carry over into the new theme. Any thoughts on the best way to do this?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Hey @BridesProTO.
Thanks for reaching out.
I appreciate that you have let us know which theme you are using as that is very helpful. I am happy to hear that you are liking the Dawn theme! In order to change the SALE badge text, you will need to Edit the languages of the theme itself. You can navigate to Online store > Actions > Edit Languages, I took a screenshot from my test store to show you where this is located:
Once there, you should be able to type in the search bar "SALE" to filter the search and make changes to the button text that is displaying.
With that being said, in order to have the SALE button display the exact pricing difference, this will require a change of coding. Since the Dawn theme is designed and supported by Shopify, we can use free design time for Shopify themes to allow our internal team to make the changes on your behalf. If you are interested in using the design time, you will need to login to your store using the Contact Us page. This will allow us to securely verify you as the store owner before discussing the changes you would like to see on the online store.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi there
I was very excited to see this question and answer because I was trying to do exactly the same thing. We run into legal problems in Australia if we advertise that an item is on sale when the discounted price in offer is actually your usual (cheap) price. However I still want to show our hefty discount on RRP using the “compare” function.
I ran into difficulties when I tried to locate the “Actions” menu option.
Here is a pic of what my screen looks like, including the menu options that appear when I click the three dots next to the “Customize” button. No “Actions” is visible.
Your post was very recent, so I don’t think it’s a Dawn theme version issue. There must be some other reason why I can’t see the “Actions” option.
Can you advise?
Thanks, Jocelyn
Hi Jocelyn
We have the same problem, and have had to change the SALE text, I also did not have the Action option but found it on the 'Edit default theme content' on the drop down menu before the 'Publish' button on the theme.
I am looking at add 'RRP' after the crossed out comparison price, if anyone can point me in the right direction it would save a great deal of searching.
Hi Ruth
Thanks for your reply.
I'm afraid I still can't see where I can access "Edit Languages". This is what I see when I click "Edit default theme content", and there's still no "Action" option, or anything else that seems to allow me to get to the Edit Languages window. Any clues?
I did make a little bit of progress though. I found another page with a snippet of code that I could add that removed the Sale tag from my main search result pages. But the tag is still visible when customers click through to item details, so my problem isn't fully resolved yet.
Like you, I'd love to be able to have "RRP' instead of "Sale" after the crossed out comparison price. It's odd that they haven't made this easy, since there are so many Shopify users asking how to do this (or something very similar).
Hi Jocelyn
If you select 'Products' on the Theme content page and scroll down you should find a field called 'On Sale' this is the field I changed and it changed the text in the Sale Tag.

I have no ACTIONS button next to customize. I'm brand new here, only two weeks into trying to move our current store to Shopify. My DAWN theme is the latest version and it's up-to-date. Is there another way to get to ACTIONS?
