Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi everyone,
I am facing an issue that I tried to sort but without solutions available.
I have a square gif, 480x480 px, 1.18MB size. I want to place it on the homepage as an image but every time I tried to place it in any section, it comes out with an error saying: The uploaded image is corrupt and cannot be processed. Please try a different image.
I have already taken a look at other solutions listed here but all of them weren't successful. Is there anyone who has faced the same issue and found a way to solve it?
cheers guys
Hi there, @gnaro!
Thank you for your post, I'm happy to help you out. Typically, when I've seen this error in the past, it has been due to the file (the GIF) being "optimized". Our platform works with "lossless" encoding for gif images so this would be directly in conflict for our own optimization.
The easiest way to correct this error is to simply "un-optimize" the gif image and let our platform do the optimization. To un-optimize the gif image, you could use a local image editor installed on your computer (there are great free options such as Pixir), or an online service like ezgif.com (Please keep in mind that this is an external site not associated with Shopify. If you use an online service, you will need to agree to their usage policies and Terms of Service).
If you choose to use an online service such as ezgif.com follow this steeps:
Go to ezgif.com/repair
Choose your gif file and click Upload!
And voilà! You can now upload your new GIF to your account and you shouldn't run into any issues.
I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any more questions!

I have tried to do so, but the size increases drastically up to almost 50 MB...
Hi there, @gnaro!
Thank you for getting back to me, I understand if that isn't ideal. Our system currently cannot process optimized gifs, but I would be happy to share your feedback with our developers. I can't guarantee that this is something that would be changed on our platform, but if it is, an update will be added on the Shopify Changelog. In the meantime, I did find this third party blog on how to decrease your file size while keeping the quality of the image.
Thank you again for sharing, and please let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Greta,
thanks for getting back to me. I played with the un-optimization and apparently it worked.
Thanks for your help, appreciated!
