How can I spot a pagespeed optimization scam on my site?

hi, 

as we are a community we want to share a really bad scam for shopify users in terms of supposedly improving pagespeed.

first lets be clear that in most cases there is no optimization really needed, scores of 40 or 50 on mobile or around 80 on desktop are totally ok.

but here's the scam and how its working. the so called experts add a script into your theme.liquid which redirects tools like google pagespeed to a blank page, of course the loading speed is increasing like a rocket but in fact nothing was improved.

you can check this seeing a code line very cryptical and it contains a very long code  ´endcapture´ var x43\x68\x72\x6f and so on.

also you can check this on your shopify themes screen, if you look at your preview image of your live theme and see a white or black screen it might be you have been scammed on this way, unfortunately this happens very often.

if you let work someone on your code in your store choose wisely.

apps can be useful if they minify css or js and optimize images, but it should always first be done on a duplicated theme and then check if site works properly
