Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hello,
I wanted to add the newest version of my pipeline theme to my online store.
Since I don't want to hire an expert for every theme update, I would like to do it myself. But I do have some questions.
I copied the settings_data.json into the updated theme version, as well as my templates.
I also copied previous changes I added to the theme.liquid file.
The Shop looks the same now, except for one color.. But I am afraid I forgot something?
Also:
1. Do I have to do something with the apps?
2. On my currently active theme the theme.css code looks like this:
And theres a seperate file called: theme.dev.js which is is much longer.
On the new version, the theme.css file is 23900 lines long. The theme.dev.js version exists as well. Can that be right?
I did not copy those.
3. I've previously added a tag somewhere, i think it was for google analytics? Or for the merchant center? Do I have to add the code again? Do I have do delete it in the other version first?
Help would be really appreciated!
Hello @lailalaila
From what I can see, you did everything correctly. To answer your questions:
1. You copied the settings_data.json file which would have all the app blocks. Other than that, in most cases there is nothing to do with apps.
2. As long as you didn't make any changes the theme.css and theme.dev.js files, this sounds perfectly fine. The longer files are most likely due to new features being added to the theme.
3. It is recommended that you remove the tag from the previous theme however it is not necessary. You will just need to add it to the new theme for it to work properly.
Hopefully that helps.
