How do I assign listed products to corresponding "collections?"

As you can see, I have "Angel Mugs" mixed w "flower mugs." For the life of me, I cannot figure out where I go to assign to proper collection. I've watched vids and checked in w Shopify bot help to no avail. I have renamed some of the collections, so maybe that is part of the problem.

Also, a few of my mugs show in product display with the wrong (sideways view) display image... as the main image.  How do I fix that?

I'm a newbie, but I am determined!! Any suggestions or guidance appreciated. I'm not opposed to paying for help, as long as I have a true shopify design veteran assisting.

PS: I tried attaching a screenshot, but this always happens w shopify forum. Error message : "The file type (.png) is not supported. Valid file types are: csv, mp4." Can someone tell me how to convert a screenshot into a csx or MP4 file?

Hi, @Danjam. I'm happy to help you out with this! I just have a few questions to better understand what's happening on your end.

  • How did you currently set up your collections? Are you using automated collections or manual collections?
  • Where on your online store are you hoping to display these collections? For example, are you trying to display a preview of your collections on your home page or are you speaking about your menu options that brings you to a collection page?
  • How are you currently adding product images?
  • Which theme are you currently using?

How you add products to collections will depend on a few factors, but you can either use automated collections that add products automatically based on criteria you set up, or you can create a manual collection and add products to it manually. The direction your product images face would depend on the image you add in your Shopify admin. If you notice images are sideways you may need to rotate them using your image editor settings. This guide on changing an image's orientation can help.

Once I have more information I can walk you through this further. Please let me know if you have any questions! The following guides can help in the meantime as well:

Hi, @Danjam. Thank you for answering those questions!

If you're using automated collections you aren't able to add products to it manually. Automated collections add products based on the conditions you set up for the collection. If you'd like to add products to collections manually you'll want to use manual collections instead. You can learn more about using automated collections here and more about using manual collections here.

The collection that appears when your customers click a menu item will depend on the collection you've connected to that menu item in your navigation settings. For example, when your customers click the "Angel Mugs" menu item in your menu, the collection that appears will be the one connected to that menu item in your navigation settings. You can check which collection is connected by going to Online store > Navigation and clicking the menu you want to edit. It will likely be called "Main menu". From here, locate the "Angel Mugs" menu item and click Edit to see which collection you've connected. When you do this you'll want to make sure the collection connected to the Link setting is a collection with only angel mugs in it. You can learn more about managing menu items on this page.

Happy to help if you have more questions!
