How to change colors of variant pills sense theme

First time creating variants on a product page. Below is a what I am trying to achieve. But I am not getting that at all! The preview page shows my variants in black, does not show the colors, or the hearts I selected, what am I doing wrong?

well, after a shopify chat to learn that the sense theme doesn't support the type of variant I want without custom coding, I realized "Section Store" app has a variant section that is exactly what I want and super easy to use for only $9 a one time fee. That app is the best,
