How to fix product grid issue in older Dawn version?

I'm using an older version of Dawn (not willing to update right now) and I'm struggling with the product grid on the collections page. The Desktop columns selector is not responding at all. The mobile seems to override it. I would like two columns on desktop and one column on mobile. Bandaid, please!
