How to make lightbox closable on mobile by tapping anywhere

In the Dawn theme's product page on mobile, when you tap a product image, it zooms to fill the whole screen (lightbox), and then the user needs to find the "x" icon in the top right corner to close it and return to the product page. Watching some session replays, it seems to me that some users are getting stuck here. How to make it so that the lightbox can be closed by tapping anywhere? (Or maybe by zooming out? In any case, something more discoverable.) Thanks.
