Hi,

I'm having trouble in making the 'Postal Code' field a mandatory for my customers when entering their details before advancing for shipping information. The reason the Postal Code is important for my store is because I'm setting up my store for Local Delivery using the Postal Code method.

As of now, my customers can move on to the next step (shipping information) without filling the postal code which leaves them to be mentioning that the store doesn't offer delivery to their area since they have not filled the postal code field.

Can anyone please let me know how to make the Postal Code field a requirement so customers are able to receive their delivery details once they enter their right postal code.

Thank you for reaching out to the community forums and for sharing the issue you are experiencing at the checkout. 

I understand that your checkout experience currently does not have the postal code as a mandatory field and that you do need the postal code to be able to provide local delivery options. While I am happy to submit feedback to our developers on this topic for you, I know that doesn't solve your immediate issue. I would recommend looking into an app or developer that can provide a post code validator on the product/cart page that prompts the customer to fill in their postcode before reaching the checkout. You can also edit the language on the checkout page so that there is a call to action next in the postal code field encouraging them to fill it in. 

Any text or fields can be edited using the theme language editor. In your store admin if you go to Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit Language, you can change any precreated text on your checkout in there.

Hi @Shay,

Really appreciate on the prompt response and that would be very much appreciated on informing the development team in making this change. Since, the method of delivery I'm using is by inserting the postal code, I would appreciate if the team can make this tweak; as the field that must be filled, in order for the customer to understand what information they are lacking on. Hope it can be done soon! 🙂

And yes, thank you so much @Shay for the tip. I can use the language tool to indicate the customer on informing the postal code is mandatory before clicking on.

Also, answering to your question, my store is located in Sri Lanka.

Hello ,,

I am haveing same issue ,the Zip Code or Postal Code is important to payment gateway company!

the solution you offer is not working ,and paying 10$ monthy for app in order to get this solution is not accepatable .

it was easy in other platform without paying extra charges.

Can it be done without a Shopify Plus plan ? as any custom change requires a Shopify Plus plan in order to customize the checkout page or else the checkout page template is not available for website admin users. Can any developer do that? and if so, how?

Has there been any advancement on this? I can see original post was in 2021 and there has been multiple posts about the same topic - is there anyway without being on a plus plan or use a paid app to make the post code field mandatory for stores outside the USA?

The zip code field of the address form in your checkout, is automatically set to require the zip or postal code be entered before proceeding to the next page of the checkout. Therefore, customers will not be able to continue through to the shipping page unless their zip code is provided. 

 

You can assist your customers with entering their entire shipping address details by enabling the address autocompletion option. This checkout setting is found in your Shopify admin by going to ‘Settings > Checkout’. It looks like this:

What payment gateway are you using? If you are using Shopify Payments, then there is another setting that you can use to ensure an accurate zip code is entered. From your Shopify admin again, please go to  ‘Settings > Payment Providers > Manage’ and enable the Address Verification System (AVS).

This is a fraud prevention feature as well, that will decline the payment if the zip code entered for the billing address does not match what the customer’s credit card provider has on file for them.

we just came across the same problem. Though I did not find out how to really make the field mandatory, I've at least managed to remove the "optional".
Just can change it in your translations for alle other languages as well as your main language. just search for postcode or optional and you should find it.
