How to remove discounts from customer checkout?

Hi, 

How do i remove the discounts showing in the customer checkout? i have removed them from all the email templates. Image below,

If it's a discount, you can't remove the results of them from showing in the checkout. 
What are you doing that needs you to discount but not have the discount shown - vs just making the product at the lower price to begin with? Context helps for possible paths forward.
