Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi!
I want to set the Site Name that appears in google search to be "Genix Carbon". Currently, it is showing "genixcarbon.com".
I've added a photo references below here so you know what I mean.
I've seen other solutions which says to change the "Title And Meta Description" under Online Store > Preferences. I've already added that to be what I want, and the Homepage Title doesn't seem to be the same thing as a Site Name too.
So I want to maintain the current Homepage Title and Homepage Meta Description. I just want to change the Site Name. Please help!
I see your site already has "og:site_name" value set to "Genix Carbon". Did you add it recently? If yes, maybe re-trigger the crawl in Google.
I have already requested for the re-crawling on the Google Search Console 2 days back, today it shows that it is done. Previously my Homepage Title and Homepage Meta Description wasn't updated, so I requested for it. Therefore, I know the re-crawling is done as I see the Homepage Title and Homepage Meta Description has been updated.
By the "og:site name", where do I find this setting? Is it under Settings > General > Store Details > Store Name? If so, yes, this has been set couple months ago already.
Hi @justinn95,
Please go to Settings > General. You can change it here
I've already set this a couple months ago, any other possible solutions?
Hi @justinn95,
Aren't you looking to change this?
How do you want it to display on google? I will guide you with the code
I want to set the Site Name that appears in google search to be "Genix Carbon". Currently, it is showing "genixcarbon.com". I already set the Store Name to "Genix Carbon" couple months ago, but the search result is showing "genixcarbon.com".
Hi @justinn95,
You can try following instructions
The settings can be found in the theme.liquid file.
Hope it helps!
Sorry it's alien to me when it comes to editing the code. 😵💫
Can I confirm with you that I need to replace the current <title> </title> part with the following?
<title>Genix Carbon</title>
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context" : "https://www.genixcarbon.com",
"@type" : "WebSite",
"name" : "Genix Carbon",
"url" : "https://genixcarbon.com/"
}
</script>
Hi @justinn95,
Yes you also need to replace this and it is found at theme.liquid file
NO do not replace that code. The advice from Namphan is incorrect and will severely negatively impact your SEO. Changing the code between your title tags will alter every title on every page. DO NOT DO THAT PLEASE. See my response below.
Hey @justinn95
There are a few possible ways Google will pull your site name to include in search results. This article also explains how the site name is populated a bit more in detail in case that's helpful to you.
Keep in mind, you cannot control what Google uses. Its a recommendation to Google and they may respect your request or not. It's beyond your control.
I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for your reply! Could you elaborate more on point 1 and 3? How do I access / change the WebSite structured data and what do I exactly need to add / edit in the <title> section of the theme.liquid file?
I'm looking at your live site and you're already doing everything you need to do. You cannot control Google and make them show exactly what you want to see. We can only provide a recommendation to Google, it's up to them how it's displayed in search results. Think of these like a recommendation where you're asking Google to use this specific information. But they are not required to use any of it.
Hi @justinn95,
When you fill the data in, Yoast SEO will combine all the information about your site and tell search engines what your website is about. As a result, your site may get featured in a Google knowledge panel and increase your visibility in the search results. So fill in your website info, organization info, logo, and social profiles, and you’re all set.
Google might show either your website name or your alternate website name in the search results, depending on the query and the length of your site’s name.
In October 2022, Google announced support for site names in mobile search results, to make it easier to identify the website that is associated with a result. In March 2023, the design for desktop results was updated as well. By adding the correct structured data, you can help Google to display the correct site name in the SERPs.
Sites running Yoast SEO are already compatible with Google’s updated design. Yoast SEO automatically adds Schema.org structured data for your site so that search engines can understand your content. Yoast SEO describes the website and automatically applies its name to the graph.
As the next step, we recommend you to request indexing for the homepage URL, so Google can update its index to find out the website name while recrawling the page again.
Yoast Shopify app offers a 14 day trial period so can test it on your store and see the difference.
Thanks for your reply! However, I would put using an app for this in the worse case scenario only. If all else fails, then I would give it a go. 👍
