Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I have purchased a Domain Name from somewhere else and transferred it to my current website www.lsaccountingfirm.com
I was thinking of re-branding. Is it possible to change the above domain via Shopify? Or will it always display that name in places.
Would you suggest I simply create a Brand new website and subscribe again instead?
TIA
You should be able to add a new domain name to your store (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain) -- would do some DNS configuration "somewhere else", then you should make this new domain your primary (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/domains-terminology#primary-domain).
Then you'd need to amend your shop name in settings. And obviously in texts on your site.
The only name which stays with your store forever is the ***.myshopify.com domain, but this should not be an issue.
If necessary, you may then remove the original ***.com domain, otherwise anyone coming to your old primary domain will be automatically redirected to the new one.
Hey There! A lot of this will depend on what your goals are in the possible re-branding, how much legacy SEO value your current domain has, and what your plan is for the long term. You can change your primary domain in Shopify - as detailed here. "After you change your primary domain, the new primary domain is displayed to customers who visit your online store." But see below first.
I believe there are some bigger questions that need to be answered first. Your site looks to be established with a lot going on and some moving pieces. Things I would be thinking about:
There are several other considerations as well, depending on how much traffic/business value your current domain has. Changing domains to a current/live business can have big implications and should be approached with caution and a thorough plan.
Another option is you can take a parked domain and simply redirect it to your current site. If someone types in your new domain then, it would redirect them to your current domain and that current domain would be displayed in the search bar.
As you mentioned, starting a brand new site may be cleaner but you would still need to address the questions I mentioned above before proceeding, in my opinion.
Either way, I would recommend you have a plan for the above questions I listed before taking any action. Depending on your comfort with technical matters, you may need a developer or other technical person to assist. And you can always reach out to Shopify support via your admin if you get stuck. If you would like further help from me on navigating this or other issues, please feel free to reach out.
Cheers!
