Issues with Translating the Announcement Bar Across Different Markets-Lightning Icons Missing in EU

Issues with Translating the Announcement Bar Across Different Markets-Lightning Icons Missing in EU

I am planning to serve three markets with my shop: Germany, the EU, and third countries.

For the German market, I have kept the default language in German and removed the English version. For the other two markets (EU and third countries), I successfully implemented the automatic translation. There are still minor errors in the texts that I am currently fixing.

Now to the main issue: On my website for the German market, the announcement bar displays the following text: Ready for the controversial style?. However, in the international markets (EU and third countries), the text appears without the lightning bolts. I have tried manually translating the announcement bar but could not find the corresponding section. Is there any way someone could assist me in resolving this issue?

German Version: Correct with Lightning Icons

EU Version (Englisch): After automatice translation the Lightning Icons are missing.

Can you please help me?

Hey @Monique2002

Thank you for your detailed explanation — it’s great to see how thoughtfully you’ve approached the setup for your multi-market store.

I understand the issue you’re facing with the announcement bar: the German version correctly displays the lightning icons (), while the automatically translated versions for the EU and third countries are missing them.

The reason for this likely stems from the way automatic translations handle special characters or emojis — they often get stripped out or misinterpreted during the translation process. Since the emoji is part of the text string, it might not be retained unless manually added in the translated versions.

Here’s how you can fix it:

1. Manually update the announcement bar text for each market. Go to Online Store > Themes > Edit default theme content (or Edit languages), then select the appropriate language/market. Look for the announcement bar section — sometimes this is under “Header” or “Theme settings” depending on your theme.

2. Manually reinsert the emojis for the English versions: Example: Ready for the controversial style?

If you’re using a Shopify translation app (like Translate & Adapt or Langify), you’ll need to update the announcement bar content directly within the app’s interface under the relevant language and add the icons manually.

Let me know which translation method or app you’re using — I’d be happy to walk you through the exact steps. Or if you’d like me to make the update for you, feel free to DM me anytime.

Best regards,

Thank you for your detailed explanation — I really appreciate your thoughtful approach to the setup of my multi-market store!

Regarding point 1: I cannot access the backend to edit the announcement bar because it’s set to English, which is assigned to the European Union and International markets. Whenever I try to make changes, the system tells me: "The primary language of your store is German. Use a translation app to adjust content in English. To make adjustments in a different language, use a translation app."

And as you know, I have already done that.

Regarding point 2: I’ve been searching for over 3 hours in Translate & Adapt for the translation of the announcement bar, but I haven’t been able to find it. I’m starting to feel quite frustrated 😞.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Thank you so much for the update — I completely understand how frustrating it can be when you’ve spent hours trying to sort something out without success. You've already done a great job setting things up, and this kind of roadblock can definitely be discouraging.

No worries at all — feel free to DM me, and I’ll take a closer look to make sure everything is set up exactly the way you want. With my experience working with Shopify and translation tools like Translate & Adapt, I’ll make sure you get the best possible result.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi @Monique2002,

Have you tried going to customize and checking it at Market?

Maybe you did not enter lightning bolts for other markets.

I hope it helps!
