Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
So Ive started using an SEO audit tool called seobility. This tool has picked up an issue with redirects and Im trying to figure out if it can be fixed, and if so, how.
The situation it reports is that on a collections page that has products listed, there is a redirect from a link that includes the collection to a link that just points to the product.
For example:
On a collections page for hammers there is a product called sledgehammer. The link on the collection page shows as www.website.com/collections/hammers/products/sledgehammer and it redirects to a page called www.website.com/products/sledgehammer . I have found on some websites when I hover over the product on the collection page it shows the link including the /collections/collectionname/products/productname component, while on other pages it points directly to the /products/productname page
So my questions are:
1. Why is this so?
2. How do I change it so when looking at a collections page it points directly to the products page.
Here are a couple of real life examples:
https://www.loveinaboxtoyou.com/products/george-the-giraffe-plushies-toy
Both of these pages are accessed from a collections page, however as you can see, the second one does not include the collection it came from in its URL, and points directly to the product page.
Any help appreciated.
Steve
I am having similar 301 redirect errors showing in my site audits for SEO. I came across this topic which had some interesting comments about changing the liquid code (the actual "answer" wasn't any help but the comments have good information). It did not work out for me as we have a completely customer template so I could not find the instances of the URL they were talking about in our code, but maybe it will help you.
