Refresh theme: add variants to collection pages

Hello, I have a single product with 5 color variants, each with its own image. I want all 5 to appear as separate product cards on the collection page, but for inventory reasons, I want to manage them as variants on a single product page. I tried several youtube videos with snippets of code, but nothing works with the Refresh theme. Is anyone able to share the code that works? Please advise exactly where to paste the code as well, whether a separate snippet liquid file or in the main-collection-product-grid.liquid file or somewhere else. thank you!

You can use metafields for this purpose to show different variants for single product.

I have variants setup and working fine. The issue is how to get them to appear on the Collection page as separate products, using the Refresh theme.
