Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi,
Is there a way to see if an image on the site is actually in use? I've got a site with multiple versions of the same image and I want to easily remove the ones that aren't in use. How do I find out which image files are being used and which aren't?
Here's an example: 3 images in the files. Only 1 is in use so I want to delete the other 2 - how can I tell which one is in use?

This is the accepted solution. I originally asked this question in 2019 when this option didn't exist (it's now 2024...finally resolved!)
Hello, I have the same issue and I figureit out just now, and I want to share this.
Go to Content>Files>and If the image in reference tab in just dash it means it is not used. you may now delete. Hope it helps.
Hello Sirrah,
You can see name/path of the image by inspecting image from frontend and compare that name/path with this name.
And remove those image which are not in use.
hello, is there a more professional solution for this meanwhile? greetings frank
Huhu??
Hello, did you find an app or something to do remove the unused images of your website ? Thanks
yes but where is the delete button to delete the unused image? i know which image but i dont know how to delete all other unused images.
thanks, am
Lucky that u know the images to be deleted, once u select them, u can see the delete option/button floating below side. Hope this might help someone still looking out for the option.
Did someone already find a solution or app for this? We would like to see what images aren't used in the live theme so we can delete them (preferably in bulk). Thanks!

Actually, this is only true if images are used on product pages. If it is in the blog or other pages there is still the dash even if they are in use.. So be careful.
Great, and how do I select all the images with a dash? Or how do I filter them out? I can't find this anywhere. I don't want to go through 10.000 pictures by hand.
