There was an oversight in the development of the draft order Reserve Items feature.
When you reserve a product in a draft order it does not remove that item from inventory, meaning that it's still available on the website for purchase but then shows an out of stock message at checkout.
Here's an example to better portray the issue - An item has Qty:1 and I want to reserve it for a customer in an Draft Order, so I use the Reserve Items feature to hold it. The problem is that the Qty:1 item is still available on the website for purchase until the Draft Order is paid for. If someone adds that item to their cart and tries to checkout, they get an Out of Stock message but they are puzzled as to why because the product listing shows 1 in stock on the website.
This issue has prevented me from using the Reserve Item feature, as it leads to customers running into issues a checkout and not converting.
The Reserve Items feature should effectively remove the item from inventory while on reserve so that it's not available to be added to a cart on the website.
I couldn't agree more. We are a wholesaler and have net30 and longer customers who have open orders; our preferred method would be to update thier draft order and have it relieve inventory.
I've noticed quite a few holes in the inventory management side of shopify. This being a major hurdle in our business.
So it appears that you can reserve items in draft orders put only when using the desktop function. It works I have tried it.
Shopify really need to implement this feature in the Shopify Admin App.
I have been creating orders without payment to reserve the items. If a customer changes their mind, I then cancel the order. BUT i have recently found out that they have changed this function, so when you cancel
the order the stock is realised but the amount on the order isn’t. So your total sales summary, show that you have actually taken more orders than you have.
Complete Joke and I can’t believe Shopify haven’t sorted it!!
