Does anybody know if there is a way to set a default carrier on the order fulfillment page? As it stands we have to select a carrier from the drop down list for every single order individually unless we're dispatching in bulk. I find this extremely frustrating given that we use the same carrier for just about everything.
Another thing I would like to see is prices displayed on the Products list, again if anybody knows a way to do that it would be very useful. At the moment when we're reviewing our prices we have to view the stock using collections on the website. It seems odd that something as basic as a product list containing prices doesn't exist.
Nick here from Shopify.
I looked into this for you and tested it a few times to see if I could find a way to make a default carrier and it doesn't seem like there is.
Because of this, I will put through a feature request on your behalf to the development team. I can see how this would help you time-wise and make the entire fulfillment process more efficient and streamlined.
All the best, Nick
Can you help me to activate the carrier shipping API, or do you have conditions that need to be met?
I am very difficult in this section. Thanks
There are some conditions which do need to be met for this. Shopify created a helpful guide for this which you can read here and shown below is the section I screenshot from the guide that highlights the requirements:
How are we expected to know which shipping carrier to use?
I just made my first order via AliExpress from China, using epacket. Is there a list of recommended, or default, carriers?
I do not understand whether selecting a shipping carrier is a prerogative for an order to be fulfilled, or not.
Well I guess it's the difference between a professional, established seller and those just starting out. You learn as you go. Usually most sites have options for shipping because some people have a carrier they prefer, or some services might cover a certain area better or cheaper than another one.
We use the same carrier for most items but have different options. For example. economy is free but if customers want a next day or express service it costs more so they'll have to pay for that.
Ni @Nick ,
So if when I see "shipped" for my order from the supplier, and I have not asked for a shipping carrier, do I contact the supplier to learn more?
OR is this something I need to know, just to add a tracking code to the order?
Can I still update my order to "fulfilled" even so?
Really great questions. Selecting a carrier isn't always a prerogative for an order to be fulfilled or not, but it's definitely nice to have and to be able to add to your fulfillment options. With regards to the question you asked in your first post about which carrier to select, ePacket is a carrier in itself and you would select ePacket in this case. The Shopify content team wrote a blog article about dropshipping with AliExpress which you can read here and you can also see below in the screenshot where it highlights to select ePacket as the shipping carrier option if it is available.
In terms of adding a tracking code to the order, there is another full blog post from the content team about how to apply to track to your AliExpress ePacket order which you can see here.
You would still be able to update your order to fulfilled without this information, but it would no doubt be beneficial for the customer if you were able to add it.
any advance on this Nick?
it is the biggest time waste for me at the post office.
When I have 20 parcels and am scrolling for each one to find the same option each time
Im in the same situation. Also, selecting orders in bulk from the order page, and then clicking 'Fullfill' defaults to a blank shipping method without the option to change it. It would be super useful to be able to choose the method from here. Will save so much time. 😕
Just to provide an update for you on this. This is a feature request which has been put forward, and we are unable to provide a timeline. I can completely see how it can and would help make things easier for you, but as of now, there is no further update on this.
I would also find it extremely helpful to be able choose a default shipping carrier. My packing team often sends 50 or so orders at a time, always with the same carrier, but on occasion they forget to change the carrier and the customer is sent incorrect tracking info. I understand that a request has been lodged with a development team -- just letting you know that there are more of us out here who would really appreciate this feature!
Thank you for the feedback @VictoriaS. Every bit of information like this is helpful!
It is sooooo freaking annoying, and so unecessary. We come in first thing in the morning, go to bulk print tons of orders, and they come up with a freaking different box size and UPS because its what the last package was shipped on, then we have to manually set every single order, when we have one standard for the majority of our orders. I asked the question about default shipping package/method months and months ago and never even received a response. Should be a super easy thing to fix, but they are obviously focused on f'n up our auto logout and messed up re login pages now.
Yes I feel it's unnecessary too. I see no reason why we can't have the option to set a shipping carrier default. It would make so much sense and while I'm not a coder, I can't see it being particularly difficult to impliment.
This is getting so old, went to bulk print 25 orders, and they all come up UPS when they should be USPS First class. What a waste of time to have to go individually change every single one.
Shopfiy??????????? Any interest in supporting our needs here?
How do you get to print bulk with any carrier set? My problem is I can't set a default carrier at all and have to do each one individually, even though I'm using the same carrier for most items.
That is the problem. If you go to print bulk, then they all default to the last used. Our standard is USPS First Class package, but if my shipment prior to going to generate bulk order labels was UPS ($7.00 per shipment), then the whole bulk comes up UPS and we have to change them one by one. This is absolutely insane, what kind of online ecommerce provider doesnt support default shipping preferences besides Shopify? Amazon does, Etsy does, Ebay does etc. etc. etc. This is elementary stuff and not paying attention to it is criminal. @Nick
That's interesting. When I go to print in bulk it doesn't print any shipping carrier, I have to set each one manually every time. We're in the UK so maybe it's slightly different, although the settings seem to be set for US primarily (zip code instead of post code etc.)
We have been happy with Shopify overall, we're doing a lot better than we did with our old Wordpress site that's for sure, but I totally agree, this is something that is very basic and we should not even have to be asking for it, it should be there now.
For the moment I've just given up and rely on customers accepting that they will know what service is being used based on what they chose at checkout. To be fair I haven't had anybody ask.
