Shopify Trial Templates Being Used

I am currently trying to use a trial theme template and I am not able to apply templates that I made into a page. Is this something that is suppose to happen and I have to buy the theme in order to use those templates or is there something that I am missing?

In theme trials you can customise the theme through the Theme editor and preview it. You can't edit its code, in order to edit the code and publish the theme you'll need to purchase it first.

The dropdown on pages, products, etc. that lets you assign an alternate template only shows the templates available in the published (live) theme. So with a demo/trial theme you will have to purchase it before you can publish it and assign any alternate templates you created in it.
