Slideshow Focal point suddenly not working anymore - dawn theme

Hi everybody,

Somehow - out of nothing - the focal point placement on slideshow images doesn't have any effect on how the image will be displayed anymore. Yesterday it was still working...

Red marked text in following screenshot says: "This section of your theme does not support focus points."

Anyone experiencing the same? Any ideas?

Thanks! Jan

This is an accepted solution.

Here are two workarounds that you can try:

  1. Edit the Focal Point via Content > File Section:

      • Navigate to Content > File section in your admin.
      • Move the focal point, and the error should not appear.
  2. Edit the Focal Point Directly in the Theme Editor:

    • Despite the error message, you can still edit the focal point directly in the theme editor.
    • This is a visual bug, and the changes should still take effect.

We have also reported this issue to our Developers, and they are working on a fix. In the meantime, please use the workarounds mentioned above.

Hi, I'm having the same issue. My images were working fine a few days ago. Just noticed they are no longer responding to the focal point anymore.

I ran into the same problem. I checked with Shopify's Dawn theme (v12) and had the same results. I believe it is an issue on Shopify's side.

Having the same issue on Spotlight theme. Occured overnight and reported to a Shopify Advisor who has escalated it to their technical team. Created drafts of my site on Dawn and Refresh theme showing the same issues (so it doesn't appear to be related to a specific theme).

Same issue here. Very frustrating!

I'm having the same exact problem and would love for Shopify to fix this so I don't have to do a pesky workaround on the actual image files.

Also experiencing this suddenly on a custom theme, glad to be reassured I haven't broken anything! Referencing `image.presentation.focal_point` is just returning "50.0% 50.0%" regardless of focal point set in admin...

Issue has been resolved now by Shopify's back end and my focal points are working again.

Mine is still not working, even with the workarounds, any advice?

This workaround is not working. I've set the focal point so low on the picture that it would have to move, and still nothing. I tried editing in Emails, then tried your Content -> Files tip - still nothing...in the end I just cropped the image, that funcitonality is still working.
