Swatches on DAWN theme 14.0.0 - how to bulk edit the metafield connections

Hi

I am presently adding colour swatches to all my existing products and I am able to bulk edit (add) the colour variable using the bulk editor.

The problem I have is that I seem to only be able to connect the metafield in each product page.
I tried connectiing the metfield through the template but get the below alert.

If you know how to connect the metafields in Bulk then I would appreciated your feedback
