Hi, I am using Turbo 9.4 version and I have difficulty with customizing pages as those I made were not found in the Theme Template Drop Down list. With Refresh and Dawn Themes, I was not experiencing this issue. Anyone can help? Thanks.

Hi @Shengtrix

I understand how frustrating it can be to not see the custom pages you’ve worked on in the dropdown list. Let’s break this down so we can figure out what’s happening with Turbo 9.4 specifically.

1. Turbo Theme and Template Assignment

Turbo uses a slightly different approach compared to Shopify’s default themes like Dawn or Refresh. When you create custom templates for pages (via Online Store > Theme > Edit Code), they need to follow Turbo’s file naming structure and be linked properly to your pages.

  • Check for Missing Files: Open the Turbo theme editor and look under Templates. Ensure your custom page file is saved with the proper .json or .liquid format (e.g., page.custom-template.json).
  • Assign the Template: Go to Pages > Edit Page in your Shopify admin, and in the Theme Template dropdown, make sure your custom template appears. If it doesn’t, it could mean the file isn’t formatted correctly or hasn’t been saved in the theme.

2. Refresh vs. Turbo Theme Behavior

The issue might not exist in themes like Dawn or Refresh because they rely on Shopify's default coding standards. Turbo, on the other hand, adds additional layers of flexibility, which sometimes require you to manually map templates to your pages.

  • Solution: Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize, and check if your customizations were saved under the right section or page. If Turbo’s structure doesn’t match the default Shopify layout, this can cause confusion.

3. Custom Sections Compatibility

If you added custom sections via Turbo’s Customizer, make sure they are saved to the correct page type. Turbo might not automatically associate those customizations with the page if they’re not explicitly linked.

  • Use the Turbo manual or reach out to the Out of the Sandbox support team to confirm if additional steps are needed to link custom sections to pages.

4. Reverting or Testing

To troubleshoot:

  • Switch back to a default theme like Dawn or Refresh and verify your templates are functional.
  • If they work, compare the structure or code in Templates and Sections for clues on what’s missing in Turbo.

If you’re still stuck, it might be a small but annoying compatibility issue with how Turbo handles custom pages differently than the default Shopify themes.

Let me know how it goes! If you need any other assistance, I am willing to help.

Best regards,
Daisy
