Uploading photo for products

Hi! This may be a set of silly questions.

1. When entering a new product, pictures can be uploaded to Shopify or selected directly from my computer. Which is better and anything to be aware about both ways (slowing down the site or risk of losing files...)

2. I try to optimise picture in affinity to a reasonable size, yet on the content files, they appear much larger

3. On this what is a reasonable size, I aim for 300Kb or <500kb but as stated above, the final results is random enough,

Thanking you in advance

Read the docs https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/product-media/product-media-types

  1. "better"/"best" make for poor vague questions and is a beginners trap that leads to poor vague answers. Context matters , such as if if you have a slow computer use CSV's and external image hosting, if you have only a handful of products do manual uploads, etc etc etc.
  2. one is a photo editor, the other is not, it could be as simple as the editor has lower zoom, etc otherwise it's impossible for any external person to tell what's going on with what you see if you don't provide examples.
  3. Reasonable image sizes are no images at all saving everyone bandwidth. The page an image is on should load in under ~2 seconds; adjust image performance based on actual end effects not vague file size ranges.  File size performance needs are highly subjective as it depends on the business type, actual content in the image, the total content page-size of an entire page including ALL images/media that has to be loaded, and how the theme renders or loads images for customers browsers, etc etc etc.
