Variant Turns Transparent (Greyed Out)

The site I am working on has to display colour swatches on product pages. I have to connect the variant colours to the variant metafields manually since each colour swatch is very unique to that product. While this is time-consuming, I trip on this step when the variant itself just greys out (I cannot click on it to choose a colour anymore). You'll see Mars Orange as the example in this image.
I am well-within the 100-variant limit. This happens randomnly.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Hi @gkennedy,

This is limited by Shopify, so if you want to add color to it, you will need to create new variant metafields and select it for unsupported variants.

Thanks, @namphan . What's an unsupported variant? Didn't understand that part.

Btw, Shopify support just told me it's a browser issue. Go figure!
