Variations images

Variations images

When I add variations after uploading photos of my products, all images appear in every variation. For example, the green T-shirt images also appear in the yellow T-shirt variation. How can I set it so that only specific images are displayed for each color ?

Okay i got it then you have to select images as per your variant from uploded media of that product.

1. Select product from admin and click on add variant > https://prnt.sc/SgIcs7BDFRO7

2. Now add one by one image in variants > https://prnt.sc/I4I56LhyG6on

You can also add image from here > https://prnt.sc/UnhT806cgMdN
3. Save product.

Hey @Foxy196.,

I understand that right now when you add variations (like different colors for a T-shirt), all the product images appear on every variant - even when you switch from, say, a green T-shirt to a yellow one. You’d prefer that only the images associated with the selected color show up.

There are two main ways to tackle this:

1. Using an App (e.g., Variant Image Automator or Rubik Variant Images):

  • These apps let you assign specific images to each variant without any coding on your part.
  • They work by automatically grouping your images based on your variant options (like color) and only display the relevant images when a customer selects that option.
  • This is a plug-and-play solution that is compatible with the Dawn theme and won’t slow down your site, though it does come with a monthly fee.

2. Custom Code via Metafields:

  • You can set up custom metafields to store specific banner images (or additional images) for each variant.
  • Then, by modifying your product template code in the Dawn theme, you can make the product page display only the images assigned to the selected variant.
  • This approach is more scalable if you have many products, and it avoids ongoing app fees—but it does require some custom development and ongoing maintenance if theme updates occur.

Both options have their benefits. The app solution is quick to deploy and user-friendly, while a custom code solution gives you more control over the display without adding extra recurring costs.

Would you like us to implement one of these solutions for you? Let me know which approach sounds best for your store, or if you have any questions about how each option works.

Hello @Foxy196

  1. Go to Your Shopify Admin Panel.
  2. Click on "Products" and select the product you want to edit.
  3. Scroll down to the "Variants" section.
  4. Click on a specific variant (e.g., Green T-shirt).
  5. On the variant details page, you will see an "Image" option.
  6. Click "Add image" and select the specific image for that variant.
  7. Repeat for each variant (Yellow, Red, etc.).
  8. Click "Save."
