whats the best way?

Hi, my friend owns www.urturt.om , and asked if I could make a few changes.  I took a look and realized the site needed loads of work.  I was even  thinking to start from scratch, right? as it would be easier to start fresh rather than cross my fingers and hope I can update everything successfully on a live store.  I've never used shopify and want to practice.  I started this trial to do this but the the 3rd day came to  fast as I wanted to play with an app (instafeed) and a theme (ella), what do you  recommend I do?

@Luke28 Hope you are doing well.

Please create a store in development mode till you are working on it. once it's done you can send that store to your friend.

And better if you don't  have any practice on shopify then you can read it's docs which is easy to understand.

Hi @Luke28,

I would not start new, I would just edit his flex theme, and not create a new one. Just update his theme. Flex theme is create by All of Out of the Sandbox's themes but the theme is not listed in the Shopify themes.

Either be a designer/developer and apply to become a shopify partner, or work with a shopify partner to get you setup with a development store that could be used for testing or eventually converted to standard shopify plan if wanted.

ok, its probably best o create a dev. store

The fact that I get commisions is strange, would that just make him mad?

His site  has a lot of errors/bugs so dont think I have  much of a choice but to start anew, no?

No do not start new, as there's no indication the bugs just wont happen again. 

Address the real bugs and find out what caused them or you'll just end up fixing them more than once.

if your making improving someone elses business why would they mad if you get some sort of compensation.

Depending on your countries regulations you may required to disclose you get a referral-commission.

ok, but the site, www.urturt.com is currently making money and my  frfiend had lots of idiots try and help manage it, so he's got alot olf  useless apps and  who knows what else connected.   How can I update it safely and get rid of all the junk so the site could be better?

learn the platform and skills needed,  do the work such as remove/add things like apps one by one testing and documenting methodically.

Or hire someone.
