Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I've been successfully editing and publishing pages (using Dawn theme). Today, I went to customize the store and got to the home page. But now when I click on any text or image, the content does not show up on the right side where it usually does where I can edit it. For example, when I click on a headline, the right side panel flashes briefly but doesn't change from "customize your templates" - which is default content. The same thing happens when I try to click to another page in the menu. A brief flash on the right and then nothing changes.

Hey, @CP6!
Have you performed any local troubleshooting steps to try to fix the issue? There's a chance this is a local issue and is triggered by something on your device or your surrounding circumstances. If you haven't, I suggest performing the following steps, then try to customize your store after each one to see if any of them resolve the problem.
Let me know how it turns out!

Ok, thanks for all the ideas. I tried almost all of them. Then I realized that I can make edits to the site, but it's different, so maybe something changed with the online editor? I used to be able to just click on the main menu to go from page to page to edit. Now I have to use the drop down at the top to get to other pages, Also, the only way I can edit is to click on items in the panel on the left that shows the outline of the page. In other words, if I click on the actual headline or image, nothing happens. If I click in the left-side panel, I can make changes.
Did something change or do you think that's some kind of setting on my end? Not a huge deal as I can edit the site.
Thanks
Chris
I'm having the exact same problem with the Dawn theme. I followed the suggestions and clear by cookies, cache, restarted my computer and the issue persists. My computer and browser are up to date as well.
Hey, @Lupialex!
I'd love to help you out. Are you able to elaborate on the issue you're encountering? Do you mind sharing a screen recording of it so I can investigate?

@CP6 Thanks for getting back to me, Chris! I tried to make changes to the Dawn theme in my test store and I seem to be able to do all of the things you described. I can click the pages on my main menu to navigate to them and edit them, and I can click the different sections on the preview to bring them up on the left sidebar. Do you mind watching this video and confirming that this is the behavior you're expecting to see in the theme editor?

Hi Summer, first thank you for the video and all the effort in addressing this problem. So this morning, I went in again and the interface now works. I can click on all the usual elements and edit them. I have no idea why as I haven't changed anything. Regardless, it's working. And thank you for all your help.
@CP6 My pleasure! I'm glad to know it works now. Thanks for the update, Chris! It might have just been a local glitch. If it ever happens again, try the troubleshooting steps and reach out to us if they don't fix it. We'll be happy to help you anytime!

I am having the same issue and I tried many different things and I'm still unable to edit anything. I wonder if it is because I am still in that free trial time
Hey, @Zenadia10916! Welcome to Shopify Community!
I would love to assist you with your concern regarding the theme editor. The free trial is designed for you to try the theme and utilize its features by designing it, so I believe that it's unlikely that this is what's causing the issue. For me to better understand the issue at hand and effectively find a solution, do you mind providing additional context? Please feel free to read the questions below and share the answers in your response.
If you can provide any screen recordings or screenshots of the issue happening, please feel free to share them here. They will greatly help with my investigation.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

"Hi there! It’s great to hear that the issue resolved itself. Sometimes interfaces can glitch temporarily, but it’s always a relief when things start working again without any changes on your end.
If you're ever working on creating or editing videos for your Shopify store, tools like CapCut can be really useful. I've found some helpful tutorials and resources over at editing that might be worth checking out for video editing tips and tricks.
Glad everything’s working for you now, and happy editing!"
im having the same issue ><
same on my end.
I had the same problem with my site. I finally figured out, after trying all of the "solutions" I could find, that when I changed the website category at the top, center of "Default", "United States" or "International", AND THEN found the element that kept showing up on the published version (the one I didn't want), I changed it to what the "Default" elements were, THAT fixed it!
In other words, make sure that your site elements are the same/consistent between all the options of "Default", "United States" and "International", you may have found your issue.
im having the same issue!

If the issue persists, could you please provide answers to the following questions? They will help me better understand the problem for further investigation.
Don't hesitate to provide any screen recordings or screenshots of the issue happening if you have any. They will greatly help with my investigation. I look forward to hearing from you!

I am having the same issue. I can't even navigate to various pages in the site to confirm that everything is set to default vs us or international. Just completely stuck.

I've solved it as I was having the same issue. Somehow I had deactivated the Inspector. As soon as I clicked "activate Inspector" I could make alterations. It's the button to the left of the Desktop at the top of the page. Hopefully this fixes the issue for everyone
