Why do my product images lose transparency after uploading?

Why do my product images lose transparency after uploading?

I uploaded all the product pics in transparent PNG without any background then checked the site etc and everything was working fine. I have came back & added more products then refreshed to check and the old product images all have white backgrounds. I have re-edited the main product images but the extra images have white backgrounds. How can I make sure this doesn't happen again? https://dialup.store/Screenshot 2023-04-08 153247.jpgScreenshot 2023-04-08 153329.jpg

@dialup - check this link - looks like images are saved with background and it is not removed.... so remove background with editor or photoshop and save image as .png and reupload...

right now images are jpg so have the background

They were uploaded as PNG, I just realised it was the TinyIMG app changing it. I have turned it off thanks

TinyIMG did the same to my store - it converted all the images to JPEG which are not able to be transparent.  They only store data for 30days, so I know how to do all the images again!  Thanks for helping me get to the bottom of this.

Hi, Eli here from TinyIMG. Until Dec 16 we had the option to convert png to jpg which concluded to really big savings when optimizing images and yes, we keep the backups for 30 days.

From Dec 16 sadly It's no longer possible to convert from png to jpg due to Shopify API updates, but Shopify converts to webp on demand themselves: https://cdn.shopify.com/

Our image optimization savings are still really high and we optimize images for SEO (alt text and filenames).

Hope this clears things up!
