123reg expired domain

We have our URL with 123reg and today we were notified that our customers email were bouncing back, after inspecting we realised the domain has just expired and the site was down.

We have renewed this immediately but the site and emails are still down. Do we need to do anything or will this update and go live automatically?

Also, I presume the gmail emails bouncing back are linked to the URL some how too, seems strange how they have both crashed at the same time.

Hi @UKBiker

When a domain expires, it can cause both your website and any associated email services to go down. Renewing the domain is the first step to resolving this issue. However, it may take some time for the renewal to propagate across the internet, which can affect how quickly your site and email services come back online.

Here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Check DNS Settings: Ensure that your DNS settings are correct and have not been altered during the expiration period. This includes checking that your MX records (which control email delivery) are correctly pointing to your email provider.

  2. Propagation Time: Be aware that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally, although it often happens much faster.

  3. Contact Support: If your site and emails do not come back online after a reasonable amount of time, contact 123reg support for assistance. They can help ensure that everything is configured correctly on their end.

Regarding Gmail emails bouncing back, if your email service is linked to your domain (e.g., using Google Workspace), then the expiration of your domain would affect email delivery as well. Once the domain is renewed and DNS settings are correct, email services should resume normal operation.

I hope this helps.
