All things Shopify and commerce
greetings,
I had around 225 pages with 404 errors in google search console and I redirect those URLs to some other pages in my website, but still, even after redirection those 404 error URLs are redirecting to the home page only,
for example:
my store is:
the-ambercollections.com
Redirect from: /collections/womens-formal-dresses
redirect To: /collections/formal-dresses
but even after saving the changes, the URL is not redirecting to the new URL and instead of that it is going to the homepage.
please if there is any solution, I have 225 URLs with 404 errors.
Thank You
Hello @Abdul15
Google doesnt 'crawl' the web in real time (its too big and ever changing for that)
So given URL is only crawled 'periodically'. it could be every few days if the page is popular and regularly updated, but can be many months (or even years!) if not a popular URL.
So, will only 'find out' that a URL is no longer a 404 (and say 200), once it crawls. Until that recrawl happens, the index will be 'stale'.
a page found to be a 404 will be 'low proiroty' for recrawling (mainly because most 404s dont 'come back') - so yes, it can be a long time, until Google gets round to recrawling the affected URLs.
I hope the above is useful to you.
Best regards,

Hello
You can use an URL redirection app like https://apps.shopify.com/seo-wizzard for redirecting the 404 errors. The app also supports wildcards and it is completely free.
