I received an email this morning advising me that the fees charged by Shopify would be increasing by 68%, No reason or increase of features.
Is this correct??
It is possible that Shopify could increase their fees, but I would need to know more information about the specific email you received and its context. Without more details, I am not able to confirm if the increase in fees is accurate or if it is a legitimate email from Shopify.
It's always good to check the official website of Shopify or contact their customer service for more accurate and reliable information.
Generally speaking, companies may increase their prices for a variety of reasons such as, inflation, cost of goods, increase in demand, or as part of their business strategy.
It's important to read and understand the terms and conditions of your subscription, and to keep an eye on any updates or changes to pricing
Oh I think it is genuine as I checked on their website. The increase will come into operation in three months.
I can understand an increase - BUT 68% they are having a laugh.
Okay, Let me know if you find this useful
That's a really awfully big increase
Alright, I think the answer is the Solution right?
Hello, @Clodbuster.
It is correct that there has been a price increase, however, it is not a 68% increase. The average across all plans affected is an increase of approximately 33%. I do understand that any kind of increase is difficult, especially for small business owners. Let me give you some context around the why behind this decision:
Shopify started back in 2006, The economic climate in 2023 has changed significantly. Rising costs and inflation require us to invest more than ever to deliver a best-in-class product and experience to our merchants and their customers. Although Shopify’s product has improved significantly, our plan pricing has remained largely unchanged for the last 12 years. We’re now making some adjustments to reflect some of those underlying costs. This is not a decision we take lightly. It’s a decision that will allow us to continue innovating and empowering our merchants with the scale they demand.
A possible workaround that may work for you if you were on monthly Shopify Basic, Shopify or Advanced plans - if you switch to an annual billing cycle, you will be paying the same rates as you were previously. Ex: If you switch to Annual Basic from Monthly - with the new price changes you will pay $348 USD or ($29/mo) - which is the same as what you would be paying before. I trust this helps, thank you.

Yes I've found that since posting originally. However - the price on the link in my email reads the new price to be £49.00/mo, according to my maths that is a 68.965% increase.
The fact that you have not raised your prices for 12 years and suddenly see fit to whack it up shows a lack of trading modulation and rather clouds my opinion of Shopify.
Hi -- Perhaps Ivy an answer my question?
When I signed up with Shopify a few years ago, it was through a discount plan -- good for the life of the store, under the contract.
Does this mean that Shopify will be breaching this contract?
Thank you for any info.
Is there an Admin or other Shopify specialist that can answer my question above?
If I have a contact with a price that was promised for the life of the store, will Shopify breach their agreement with me and increase the monthly price? There is no mention of this in the notification.
Many thanks.
Hi, @metroretro.
As I have no access to accounts here via the community forums, in your case I would advise reaching out to live support. This way, they will have access to see what kind of plan you signed up to Shopify under and they can advise you on the best next steps to take here.
Our live support can be reached via our support portal here. Simply select the relevant topics until the live support options appear, you will then be connected to a live support agent. I trust this helps, thank you.

Thanks for this additional context. I can understand feeling like this, I know I would find a price increase difficult myself.
I have had a deeper dive into regional prices since this price update and I cannot see any plan currently priced at £49.00 GBP. Is it possible this price you are seeing is inclusive of third-party expenses like apps from the app store for example? I'd like to be sure we are getting you the correct information - thank you.

This reads £49.00 to me, Link taken from my advisory email.
Thanks so much for the screenshot and this additional context. As I have no access to accounts here via the community forums, I think in this case it would be best to reach out to live support. This way, an Advisor can access your account to see exactly what was being paid previously, and can give accurate advice on the new pricing and plans.
