A single product assembled from multiple components (each with a different SKU)

A single product assembled from multiple components (each with a different SKU)

Hi there,

We’re currently exploring ways to manage products on our store that are made up of multiple components, each with their own SKU, but presented to the customer as a single product.

Here’s an example of what we’re trying to achieve:

One of our products—an arch—consists of several individual parts (child SKUs) that are required for fulfilment. Right now, we’re using a gifting app to add these components to the cart as “free” items when a customer adds the main product. While this technically works, it creates a few problems:

  • The individual components appear in the cart, which looks messy and unprofessional.

  • Customers can remove components from the cart, sometimes leading to incomplete orders.

  • Our fulfilment team might miss parts if they’re not correctly listed in the backend.

What we’d like to do instead is link component SKUs to a parent product in a way that:

  • Keeps the cart clean (only the main product is visible to the customer).

  • Ensures all component SKUs are still recorded for accurate inventory tracking and fulfilment.

  • Prevents customers from accidentally removing necessary items.

Does anyone know of an app that can support this kind of setup? Ideally, we’d like something where the bundling or kit logic is handled in the backend, invisible to the customer but clear to our fulfilment system.

Thanks so much in advance for any guidance!

Best regards,
Sindi

Hi @SindiB,

I understand your requirements, and I’d like to suggest the  Profit Bundles app as the ideal solution. Bundles created through the Profit Bundles app are treated as native Shopify products.

When a customer adds a bundle product to the cart, it appears just like a regular single-SKU product. However, once the order is placed, the app modifies the order by adding the child items. This ensures a clean experience for the customer, while your downstream systems—such as 3PL or ERP—will be able to see exactly which items need to be packed for the order.

Hi @SindiB

Looks like you're trying to manage a product made up of multiple components but want it to appear as a single item on your store. I recommend using Easify Inventory Sync.

It helps you bundle inventory — so even though each component (with its own SKU) is tracked separately, they’re all linked to a single product page. When someone buys that product, Easify automatically deducts inventory from all linked items. That means:

  • Clean cart (only the main product shows)

  • Accurate inventory across all parts

  • No risk of customers removing components

For example, you can create a gift box product that pulls inventory from a candle, a mug, and a notebook — each tracked individually, but sold together seamlessly. Here's how it works:

1. Create your products: gift box and individual products (candle, mug, notebook) to track inventory.

2. Set Up Bundle Groups: Use the app to create Bundle groups that connect your box with your individual products. Here’s how to set up a bundle group for your product:

  • Master Product: Gift Box product
  • Component Product: Candle with the Quantity per Bundle set to 1
  • Component Product: Mug with the Quantity per Bundle set to 1
  • Component Product: Notebook with the Quantity per Bundle set to 1

3. How It Works:

  • The inventory for your box will be automatically calculated based on the individual product’s inventory.
  • When 1 gift box is purchased, the inventory of candle, mug, notebook will be reduced automatically by 1, total is 3. The app will then recalculate the available quantities for your box based on the updated individual item inventory, ensuring accurate inventory tracking.

This app is straightforward, and I believe it will work well for you. Reach out to Easify if you need any assistance! 🤗

This sounds very similar to an issue I'd like to solve in my shop, but with one variation, some of the components are shared between different parent products. Would this app be able to track that without errors?

Hi @SindiB

This is a really common challenge for stores selling products made up of multiple components, and you’re right that showing each child SKU in the cart can make the shopping experience look cluttered and create fulfilment risks.

I highly recommend checking out Sumtracker for exactly this use case.

Why Sumtracker is a great fit for your setup:

Bundle & Kit Management: Create bundles (parent products) linked to multiple component SKUs (child products). When a customer buys the bundle, only the parent product appears in the cart and at checkout — keeping the shopping experience clean and professional.

Automatic Inventory Tracking: Sumtracker automatically adjusts stock for each individual component SKU behind the scenes, so your fulfilment team always picks the right parts and your inventory stays accurate.

Prevents Errors: Customers can’t accidentally remove parts, because the components aren’t separate line items — they’re handled entirely on the backend.

Highly Rated & Trusted:
Sumtracker has an excellent reputation with a 4.9-star rating on the Shopify App Store and is recommended by Shopify for stores managing kits, bundles, and multi-SKU products.

You can check it out here: Sumtracker Inventory Management on Shopify

Many stores have solved this exact problem using Sumtracker, and I think it would be a perfect fit for your arch product and any other multi-part items.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you’d like any tips on setting it up.
