Hello

In a few month I will launch my first store on Shopify, which will sell a high ticket furniture items.

In the meantime, I will create a coming soon page in order to collect as many data as I can.

i'd like to gain traction to my website in order to improve my SEO as soon as possible, so my questions is, can I add a blog page to my coming soon page, before launching my official store?

Many thanks

Hey, @Etayshaul

Tira here to help.

That’s awesome to hear that you will be launching your business soon and that you already have a product in mind.

Are you looking to modify the password page on your store? A password page is automatically enabled on your store by default. The password page is a landing page where your customers can enter a password to access your store and is typically enabled so that you can work on your store without showing your store to the public. Only customers with the password will be able to access this page.

Shopify does come with a built-in blog feature, and this would only be visible through the online store. Here are my recommendations on how you could add a blog to your store:

1) If you want to edit your theme’s code for more customization, you would need to edit your password.liquid template in the Templates directory. Check out the steps to access this here: Edit the theme code for your password page.

Before making any customizations, please duplicate your theme and work on your duplicated theme so that you can return to your old copy should you not like the changes you’ve made. If you ever need to go back to an old version of your theme’s code, you can do that by rolling back your theme

2) Use an app from our App Store to customize your page without making coding customizations on your own. I recommend checking out our App Store for page building apps. Landing page building apps can help you with drag & drop customizations on different pages of your store. You can check out the ones we have to offer here: building page apps. Some of my recommendations for a page building app can be found in this thread: How to change default page in debut theme to custom page?.

Since these apps are built by third-party developers, if you have any questions with these apps, please reach out to the third-party developer using the information listed underneath the “Support” section of the app’s page.

I understand that you're looking to increase your SEO so that you can drive traffic to your store to lead to sales. I'd love for you to check out our blog post: What Can I Do to Help My Store Rank in Search Engines? which has some detailed tips on increasing your SEO for a new website, such as setting up your SEO, doing keyword research, and optimizing your content.

How have you been working on your SEO?

Hi Tira,

Its Etay again, from a different account.

My coming soon / password page is live and you can check it here www.mycozmo.com

Also, I created 3 blog posts and added them to my store.

My question is, can I link the blog page to my coming soon page, with launching my official store?

Thanks!

Hey, Etay. Welcome back, it’s good to see you again.

Thank you for sharing your store URL with me, I took a look at your page and can see that you put your password page up and have even started customizing it. Great work!

You should be able to edit your password page to add a link to your blog. Here is our help doc with a refresher on the steps to make edits to your password page.

To add a link to your blog, you will need to link the text to your blog page using this HTML code:

<a href="yourbloglink">your text here</a>

You can insert this code in the box labeled “Message to your visitors” when you edit your password page on the Preferences page of the Shopify admin.

We also have a great blog post that covers creating a new password page template, template components and examples of adding different components to your template: Customize Shopify Password Pages With the password.liquid Template that you might find useful.

I would love to know if that helps you accomplish what you need to do.

Hi Tira,

Thank you for your reply.

My blog posts are in my shopify website therefore the blog pages have restricted access.

Is it possible to exclude those pages from the password restrictions? so that the whole website would be locked except the blog that would have a free access?

Thanks!
