Advice using Shopify and Wordpress together - sub domain?

Hi there

I have a 5 year old Shopify store which I want to keep as my primary ecommerce site.

www.nouvellenomad.com

I want to use Wordpress to create an editorial style online publication for the brand. But I'm struggling to find the right advice on how to do this without just creating a whole new domain and website.

I don't want to loose the SEO and targeted niche of the Shopify store. So I believe I need to keep Shopify as the primary domain, and build the Wordpress site as a sub domain.

But can the Wordpress site be a subdomain of the Shopify site?

Example:

Shopify - nouvellenomad.com

Wordpress - blog.nouvellenomad.com

Or does it work the other way around?

Wordpress - nouvellenomad.com

Shopify - shop.nouvellenomad.com

Will that then effect all my Shopify SEO efforts adding the shop. preface?

Any advice on best way to go about this by anyone that has done this with their own site would be very appreciated!
