Affiliate Referral Link X Discount Code | Comission

Affiliate Referral Link X Discount Code | Comission

I have a question about Affiliate/Referral Apps.

For example, if someone clicks a link to an affiliate video and gets redirected to my store. If that person also does a random coupon code search and uses a coupon code from another Youtuber, then the commission goes to the other affiliate and not the one with the referral link

Is there an app that changed their programming on the backend, to make sure that if someone uses a referral link to go to a website, that no discount code is used? Or even, that the commission goes to the affiliate link referral regardless of which coupon code the customer finds and uses?

Hi @ESS00

I understand you're concerned about a scenario where a customer arrives at your store through an affiliate's referral link but then applies a discount code from another source, potentially causing the original affiliate to miss out on their commission. This is a valid concern in affiliate marketing, as it can lead to disputes and dissatisfaction among your affiliates.

To address this issue, you have a couple of options:

  1. Prioritize Referral Links Over Discount Codes: Some affiliate programs are designed to attribute sales to the affiliate whose referral link was used to access the store, regardless of which discount code is applied at checkout. This ensures that the original affiliate receives their commission, even if the customer uses a different discount code. For instance, apps like Referral Program ‑ Shopjar offer features that allow you to manage affiliates, track sales, and set commission rules. You can customize your referral program to align with your specific needs. apps.shopify.com
  2. Restrict Discount Code Usage: Another approach is to configure your store to prevent the use of discount codes if a customer has arrived via a referral link. This can be achieved by setting up cart or checkout scripts that detect the presence of a referral link and disable the discount code field accordingly. However, this method might require custom development or the use of specific apps that offer such functionality.

It's important to choose a solution that aligns with your business model and keeps your affiliates satisfied. Ensuring that affiliates are fairly compensated for their referrals is crucial for maintaining trust and encouraging them to continue promoting your store.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.

Daisy
