Hi.. I see here a lot of people having the same issue of all credit cards being declined by shopify. merchants are using multiple cards from different banks and still getting the same payment failed error. I am also having the same issue.. i see complaints for this issue all the way from 2022 till date but no solution.. did anyone find a solution to this problem?? I reached out to live chat and they tell me that " card was rejected by our Payment Service Provider." Does anyone know what this means?? im waiting for the support specialist to get back and he asks me to check with my bank.. i checked with both my banks, had a long chat with them and confirmed that my cards are perfect. Shopify already placed 1 charge on the same card and now its suddenly unable to.. Does anyone have a solution to this problem??

Hey @ConradPPA,

If you mean the card you tried to use for your Shopify invoices/billing was rejected, then the following may the reasons(s) why:

  • You must use a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. Your credit card needs to allow for recurring payments.
  • Alternatively, you can use a debit card that is co‑branded with Mastercard, Visa, or American Express.
  • The card must have international capabilities.
  • The card must be set up to accept recurring transactions.
  • If your co‑branded debit card doesn't have these capabilities or if you're not sure, then you must contact the financial institution that issued the card for assistance.
  • f you are based in France, then you need to use a credit card or a deferred debit card to pay for your Shopify subscription. If you are unsure which type of card you have, then contact your bank.
  • If you are based in India, then you can't use a RuPay card to pay for your Shopify bills.
  • If you are based in Brazil, then you must use an international, not national, Visa or Mastercard. Verify that your card is branded as International.

Thanks Moira for your response. I have double triple checked from my end and I'm aware of these points since this is the exact reply that all the other merchants received when they raised the same issue..

I am very confident this is an issue from shopify's end since:

  1. I have used 2 different cards - mastercard and visa, from 2 different banks.
  2. I have checked with both banks and confirmed that both credit cards are capable for recurring and international transactions.
  3. The exact same issue is faced by many-many people, so its clear that its not a card or bank related issue. it has to be shopify.

I'm based in Canada. May i know what does " card was rejected by our Payment Service Provider." mean? And how do i know the reason?

Thanks!

If all credit card transactions are being rejected on Shopify, it could be due to incorrect card details, insufficient funds, expired cards, or issues with your payment gateway. Please double-check the card details and settings, and contact Shopify Support or your payment provider for further assistance

Thanks Rizwanlang!  i tried multiple cards and ensured both cards from different banks are capable and do not have any of these issues. It is an issue from shopify. Waiting to hear back from them.
