All things Shopify and commerce
Hello,
Last Saturday night I was removing some files in my "files" directory (one at a time), as well as using a bulk editor to change the names of some items. While I was removing some files (I have over 25,000 files - images, manuals, forms, etc) I began getting a message stating "server error" and this was preventing the particular file from being removed. It would eventually clear and I could keep editing. Eventually the "server error" message would not go away so I stopped. Sunday morning to my horror I found that EVERYTHING in my files folder had been deleted, all pictures, documents etc.! My website now has no pictures, instruction manuals, forms, nothing. I contacted Shopify help and was told eventually that the bulk editor caused it, but the tech representing the editor said that is impossible as it does not touch the files folder and does not delete anything. Shopify cannot explain why I was getting server error messages, and said they don't know what happened now. Information from them has slowed to a crawl as I sense they are trying to wash their hands of the issue that appears to me to have been caused by a server issue. Also, they claim that there is no backup of my website to reload. If I understand, they don't have backups(?!?!?). This is a new site that I recently paid for, and am still paying for as it was very expensive to build. The developer says it will be easier to build it again from scratch rather than try to "fix" what has happened, which would include reloading these 25,000+ files and re-assigning them to all of our products. I cannot afford to do this. I am basically out of business now, as my site looks ridiculous without images and my sales have plummeted over the past several days. Any suggestions regarding this would be appreciated, hoping this also gets the attention of the right people at Shopify.
Hello Shopify, can I get some help? As of today I've had to tell my employees to stay home until this is resolved. Your server has deleted ALL of my files! My website/online store is basically closed. Johnbuen is (was) my online support contact but he hasn't responded in over 48 hours and I've yet to hear any plan of action or resolution to this crisis.
