All things Shopify and commerce
Dear reader,
We are a B2B company with account managers that visit our (potential) customers on their location. I would like them to be able to show our webshop to the customer during their visit. As we also have a lot of input from other sales staff, we would like other sales staff to be able to visit our webshop.
The analytics function show a lot of useful information about our customers behaviour. I'm afraid that our own people will use/visit the webshop a lot, which would result in incorrect analytics.
Is there any way to either block an IP address or have an alternative link for internal use so these visits do not interfere with the analytics of the actual customer's behaviour on our webshop?

This is an accepted solution.
If you are using Shopify and want to prevent visits from your staff from affecting your webshop analytics, there are a few different options you can try.
One option is to use the "Ignore IP Addresses" feature in Shopify's built-in analytics tool. This feature allows you to exclude certain IP addresses from your analytics data, so you can ensure that visits from your staff do not interfere with the data.
To use this feature, go to the "Analytics" section of your Shopify admin, and click on the "Reports" tab.
From there, click on the "Traffic" report, and then click on the "Ignore IP Addresses" link at the bottom of the page. This will open a window where you can enter the IP addresses that you want to exclude from your analytics data.
Another option is to use a separate link or URL for your staff to access your webshop. This link can be configured to not track any visits or activity, so you can allow your staff to access the webshop without affecting your analytics data.
To create this link, you can add a "nocapture" parameter to the end of your webshop URL, like this: www.yourwebshop.com/?nocapture. This will prevent any visits to the webshop using this link from being tracked in your analytics.
In summary, there are a few different ways you can prevent visits from your own staff from affecting your Shopify webshop analytics.

Hi, there is no report called "Traffic" within my "Reports" tab. Any other clue? The main goal is to filter out internal IPs from various other reports like Acquisition and Behavious. Thanks lots in advance!
Hi there, @Pablo88. Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this thread! I took some time to dig through my own store analytics to track down this report, and was also unable to find it, along with the ability to block out specific IPs in the reports. Third party apps may be able to allow for this sort of filtering, or additional analytics tools like Google Analytics.
As this isn't something that Shopify can natively do at the moment, I'm happy to make a feedback request around blocking certain IPs from reports on your behalf! Though I can't say what the outcome of sharing this feedback will be, I'm happy to pass it along!

Hi @Imogen , thank you for taking a look! I am familiarized with filtering internal hits on Google analytics. However, I do believe it would be very useful for us Shopify users to be able to filter out our internal traffic on Shopify Analytics. It would help enhance some metrics like conversion rates since currently, internal traffic hits dilutes metrics calculated from total traffic. Thus actual external (possible customers) traffic should be lower, thus it would lower the denominator. Please let me know if you'd like any more input from my end. Cheers,
