All things Shopify and commerce
Has anyone heard anything actionable (and believable) from @Shopify that they are actually going to change the dashboard back to what we actually want and NEED to see? They claimed in a support ticked that they were 'working on adding a customizable option', but to me that means we will see it in 2026. I'm afraid they are going to think we are all just going to get over it and deal and suffer silently.
This new dashboard is not something we are going to just 'get used to' as it is completely unusable. How on earth would they think small businesses wouldn't need to see all of these stats in ONE SPOT? And that I can't see my daily and monthly stats at the same time.
It is all absurd.
Hi @JPHB85,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community.
I definitely understand where you're coming from regarding the most recent update to the admin and would be happy to share some insight on how we can help.
While we wouldn't have any details on those updates, I'd be more than happy to share this feedback with our developers. We're always looking for ways to improve the platform and can completely understand how those changes may not have been ideal.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

@Blair not ideal? you guys made all of our lives HARDER by about 10 x as much work every day. It was 100% not an improvement, and yet a step back to about 10 years ago. Just look at the comments on the YouTube videos or the other discussion threads in this forum. This change is unanimously HATED by all of your users... including the ones I've talked to off line.

Unfortunately that same 'non-answer' is what we all received when we told you how useless the 'hexagon map' was back when that was released and were told you were 'looking for ways to improve' and nothing has been fixed on that.
All we ever get is 'we will share this with the developers' and then nothing EVER gets better. Your developers are the problem if they ever thought this was an 'upgrade' to our Shopify experience... they have obviously never used Shopify as a merchant, otherwise they would not have done this to us.
I have been getting patronizing responses as well, until today. It appears that the Support Chat was elevated to another (higher?) person who actually asked what the exact issues were and why it was so disliked.
The conversation is still ongoing, but there was a comment about changing our admin back to the old version while they wait for the customizable version.
Best indication of someone finally (and actually) listening to the problems with this change.
I had someone ask me that on the first day when I said it in a support message, and they ended with the same patronizing 'we will pass it along' and 'working on an option'. It wasn't a very hopeful feeling I left with unfortunately 😞 Sadly they gave the same answers when the terrible map came about and there haven't been any changes to that in about a year.
I was told today that they would revert us back to the original Home Page. Hoping it will be quick.
oh wow! that would be great. did it sound like they were doing for everyone?
Hi Steven,
Did they revert you back to the original admin page? I'm imagining that this is not something they can do for just one store.
Blair, the changes are terrible. Who decided to make sales and traffic a round number over 1K? I now have to run a report to find out exactly what I've sold for the day and how many sessions I've had. It should be explicit on the admin homepage, but instead takes several extra steps. Also, the arrows all over the place appear to employ gamification techniques to make us competitive with ourselves so we'll make more money for the platform. I don't need arrows constantly changing by the hour comparing my sales and sessions in an effort to spur me to work harder.
definitely! I don't know what good it is for me to see how I'm doing 'today' versus 'yesterday'.... I just want to see what I'm doing today AND this month together. It's not like I'm making a hundred sales a day. (I wish!)
We are making close to a hundred sales every day and it's still not the comparison that's relevant.
Yup, the comparison is mildly interesting but hardly information that we need front and center. If I want to compare today to yesterday, I can go to analytics. Now I have to go to analytics to get this months sales. Are they kidding me? What I need are today's sales and this month's sales at a glance. Don't make me jump through hoops for it. And while they're at it, quit hiding the search bars. I shouldn't have to open them and then type into them. They should just be there, open and ready to go.
OMG the search bars. YES! SO STUPID! Yet another thing we asked them to fix over six months ago and they haven't done anything. Why do they think we want to have to hit 30 extra buttons to do anything?
Rose I am with you on the arrows, it makes me panic, I don’t need to see it like that! We work as hard as we can in difficult times, constant comparisons are awful to see!
Blair, please direct all of this feedback to the developers. Truly, I'm hoping they are seeing all of the negative feedback about this update and how it is anything but helpful to us. I personally have never seen so many people share the same opinion on something, I'd assume it'd be alarming to Shopify developers at this point. Please listen to your users and either change it back or give everyone the option to switch to the old version. As so many people are saying, don't "fix" something that isn't broken.
Really hoping there can be a positive resolution for us with the amount of people complaining about this.
and soon! like by the end of August, not 2 years from now.
Blair,
Not only is the new admin less useful, it really feels like it was developed by a user interface purist, without any concerted effort to make sure it didn't inadvertantly dispense with useful functionality. Did Shopify really gather significant end-user input for this? It's really hard to believe real-world users would like this new admin (not the look, feel, etc. But the actual functionality).
I’d like to join in to express my dislike of this new layout too, it makes life much more complicated and stressful. I’m thinking of switching to another platform, I don’t think Shopify care one bit about their users or they would listen. I’ve personally never seen so many comments about a change as this one.
I at least got a new customer service person asking questions about my issues when I mentioned i would be considering a switch of platforms. Before that was repeated patronization. And the explanations and the video about the roll-out made me ill. It feels like a design team did this to look good instead of work well. (And it doesn't look good or professional. Ugh)
I agree. It is actually really unappealing looking. Like we went back 20 years ago... and I'm not really sure why I want things to 'blend in' and be hidden. I would like the important buttons to be in my face. I'd take 'neon Shopify green' any day over boring beige (gray).
It would be development effort better spent if, instead of a ton of changes, you were to introduce less changes, but that also included a certain level of tailoring. You can't nail every user's needs perfectly (our businesses vary too widely), but you can satisfy many more of them if you make things configurable (e.g., what's the default time period for comparison on reports, etc.).
"may not have been ideal."
LOL, you think? Maybe you folks should have reached out to shop owners. This update is TERRIBLE and only makes my workflow less efficient. For what? So the developers can brag to other developers about how "streamlined" their site is?
The new admin page has improved nothing. Not a single thing is improved and numerous things are made harder.
If you folks actually wanted to help, you'd throw this design in the trash and go back to the previous version. Seriously, who are the developers designing for? Certainly not for us.
Blair,
Please convey to whomever is in charge of UX and UI that this "streamlining" is a massive fail that is universally hated by everyone. The old adage of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to apply here. The old admin page was FAR superior this this one. The sorting method on the "tags" does not even stick now and this REALLY screws up my workflow. They broke it. Please fix.
@Blair any ACTUAL updates? you can see here that many people are upset. We are NOT going to forget about these horrible changes. Fix them NOW not 5 years from now. We are going into the busiest time of year and we need our dashboard back.
As a designer, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Shopify as it is slowly dawning on them that we are NOT getting used to it or growing to appreciate it. Probably a lot of "How can they not see how this is better."
One thing I'd pass along to them, something that was drummed into our head in design school, is that you don't get to argue with your product's users. You don't get to tell them that it's their fault that they don't appreciate your design work. There is simply no way that anyone would buy this new admin page to replace the previous one. Next time they need to run the new one as beta and if no one uses it, there you go. End of conversation. User buy-in is the ultimate proof as to whether your design has succeeded, not kudos from other developers, not your ability to fluff it up with designerly language in a launch video. Check your ego and trash this new admin design.
Hello! Oh My GOODNESS Shopify!??! I don't know WHAT whomever was thinking on this new uploading pictures update but heads should roll!! It ended up taking me around an hour to upload 44 pics for my newest product earlier today and disappointed is an understatement!! 🤬 So, start choosing my pics which I arrange in a certain order for a reason, and BAM!, suddenly only 20 allowed at a time?!,, not a huge ordeal as it actually makes them easier to rearrange if necessary because it was so awful anyways prior to the update. (Actually, I take that back! IT IS an ordeal as it still requires me to count pics, then count again, etc! I don't and can't take pics in the order they will be portrayed on my website.) I really try to just get in order while I'm choosing to avoid that whole mess in the first place. So, choose 20, go right back to add, choose 20, right back to add, choose 4. This is really bad period., EXCLAMATION POINT!, because it forced me to choose 20, literally have to go into my gallery and count the pics, write down the ones I've chosen, then on next 20, count and choose to avoid repeats and select the ones of 24 remaining! WHAT A MESS AND BEYOND FRUSTRATING!! Then, after downloaded, I select view all and WHAT?!..COMPLETELY out of order, NOTHING like the way I just spent 30 minutes of my precious time trying to accomplish?? SO!, delete 44 pics, rechoose 20, OH....I have to wait for these 20 to download SEPARATELY, before I can proceed to next 20!? Fantastic, more of my precious time, counting pics to establish what's uploaded, what's not, HUH?! Took me an HOUR! And even worse, once 20, then 20, then 4 were uploaded, view all and STILL NOT IN ORDER I SELECTED?!!? 🤦♂️🤷♂️ Really now?? CMON!! I have tons of products with 60, 80, 150+ pics!! What the hizzle am I going to do on future products with 60, 80, 150+ pics????!!!! I want and will provide as many applicable pics as necessary as I sell as~is vintage found Home Decor and I want and NEED my customers, as well as myself, to have as many pics as possible and necessary so there's absolutely NO to very little confusion, misunderstanding to the condition of the items they will be receiving all over The World 🌍 physically unseen! Any types of Returns, Refunds are devastating and NEED to be avoided at all costs!! Not that it actually matters that My Biggest, Most Important Policy is ALL SALES FINAL!! But that's a whole nother story! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remedy this like pronto!! I completely understand updates have bugs and issues once installed, but how something so incredibly asinine gets past any type of trial or whatever previous to update release is beyond me?? PLEASE FIX. Or by all means, if you or anyone reading this has any suggestions to ease my pain, I'm all ears! Thank You very much! 🤗 Appreciate your TIME and consideration! BOB) 😁💙
HELLO! Actually, one more thing! Problem for years now, (YEARS) have spoken to a couple reps about it and still no resolve. FIX the 'contains' ordeal which I'm about to explain. Today's product a perfect example!! I sell End Tables. I want that Collection to have the word END in it. Today's product were ChippENDale Chairs. I DO NOT want those in my End Tables Collection!! Do you see the problem?? What's another.... 🤔 OH, how about BAR. BARstools should not be in BAR Collection. ART! ANY word that has ART in it goes to my Art Collection! ETC. ETC. ETC. There are TONS of them which I'll happily share when I have more time. At first, didn't really mind because I felt like customers were actually seeing other items they weren't originally looking for, but I just have too many products and is really just outright sloppy now and way too many products in the wrong Collections. I'm very detail oriented, meticulous and it's kind of getting to me! Thank You very much! 🤗 Have a lovely Morning, Day, Evening! 😁💙 THX BOB)
WELL that's FABULOUS!! LOVING your autosave feature as I just accidentally hit report instead of reply and thought I was about to have to type that all over again!! KUDOS on that little nugget!! 👏💯💫
It seems like Shopify has just gotten too big and "Corporate Stupidity" has crept in. Start ups are nimble and smart and giant corporations who value money over all are just lumbering stupid behemoths.
