All things Shopify and commerce
I don't like the look of the new one at all, and losing the secondary element on the side that allowed you to compare to yesterday other other past periods of time is not ideal.
Edit: Spoke with a support rep and apparently the new dashboard was rolled out to all Plus Merchants worldwide - yikes. Imagine upgrading to Plus and immediately being greeted by a worse version of your dashboard.
The Home Dashboard should be designed around the "Glance" philosophy. By that I mean if you open your Shopify because you have 20 seconds before someone joins your call, you should be able to get sales, orders, and sessions at a GLANCE, not a squint.
I don't have a picture of what my dashboard looked like prior to today because that'd be a pretty random screenshot, but I found this one online.
It has sales and sessions in bold font, with orders directly below that. If you glance at the page, your eye is immediately drawn to it. It also shows sales clearly from the previous day or whatever period you set it to. The bar graph is clear and immediately communicates the relevant info regarding what hours of the day your site performed best.
Compare that to the current version which is the complete inverse. No tab showing previous data, a confusing line graph showing seemingly minute by minute data with curves (idk about you, but our org doesn't care about time nearly as much as this new dashboard seems to think...) The text is tiny, and just overall it's substantially less useful than the previous iteration.
The fact that we can't roll it back is a major bummer, and I'm really hoping Shopify rolls it back for everybody or at least lets individual stores make that decision. Our team has our workflow with Shopify, and didn't have any issues with the previous iteration.
I 100% AGREE -do not like this update one bit! please return to before or give option as this does not work does not work for me.
I agree, this is awful. You can't even get an exact number of sales because it rounds it like it does on the app. Whose idea was this? It's so bad.
Strong agree.
The rounded numbers are ridiculous.
Yet again. Shopify regresses and makes everything worse. If it is not broken. Don't fix it.
Thank god they are not building planes or cars.
The constant march of useless devs justifying their paychecks.....
They should have their customers test the new updates before going live. You can’t even see a variant count without going into each variant! New update sucks real bad!
I absolutely hate today's changes. Gone from simple overview with lots of info, to complex menu showing nothing much. And the menu to get to orders/products/pages/reports etc isn't working at all so I can't review anything or add anything. I'm just stuck on the new home page. The new admin home page is a dud Shopify!
We are having the same issues!
I am very stressed about how this impacts all of us!
Shopify, please revert back to the previous dashboard! This new version is not as robust, not user friendly, & the navigation menu does not work properly!
I absolutely agree with you!
The new dashboard negatively impacted our work flow today & does not work on our iPhones!! The “hamburger” menu on the left upper corner is not clickable, therefore, we can’t access anything other than the landing page when trying to work from our phones!!
Very disappointed in the dashboard update!
Agreed. Our team doesn't pay 2k monthly to have our workflow unexpectedly disrupted.
Strongly agree with this! I thought they should provide an option to let switch between old and current version to do the A/B test instead of force all of us change like this. This new layout for me is like more convenience for mobile version to view at. Speechless at all
Giving us the option to toggle between the old & new version, then allowing us to choose what dashboard works best for us would be a saving grace!
I’m dreading work tomorrow!
WHAT THE ACTUAL F*#K!
I just got my head around the previous dash and now this huge change.
I didn't even know this was coming.
Cannot believe we haven't been given the choice between one or the other, at least for a few months, before the full change over.
It is not user friendly and it's confusing.
Agree 100%
Also agree 100%
Shopify has been playing games with my inventory levels for the past 2 months but this is the kind of thing they're focused on wasting our time with. I mean, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? It takes a real special level of genius to go messing with things that work perfectly fine. Whoever made this decision should never be listened to again.
AGREED - Shopify, change it back! The new layout just appeared 30 minutes ago at midnight and I actually went to the system status page to see if you were having issues. It's so incredibly and unbelievably bad design and lacking in information. It is infuriating that you think removing data from shop owners dashboard is acceptable. How about we just remove all the stats that the Shopify CEO, COO, and CFO use on a daily basis to run your company and see how long that lasts? I have a meeting on Thursday with my marketing manager and just 2 hours ago I looked through the recent 30-60 day trend on views and orders right from the dashboard with a plan to discuss that exact screen with him this week. Poof! Now the screen is gone and the analytics page does not show me the same info. As a paying customer with a continuously active, profitable and successful online business running on Shopify SINCE 2015, I am absolutely furious.
AGREED! HATE this new report! Let's all bomb the executives on Linkedin with our thoughts... it sometimes works!
Why when there are threads going back for over 10 years on requests for basic functions that keep going ignored do they keep spending time on actively trying to make the dashboard worse for everyone.
Who in their right mind though this new look was an improvement over the previous dashboard?
I also completely agree - this is a TERRIBLE UI change. So Shopify - no comms or expectation management around this? You need to listen to your users and revert back to the previous view. Almost always in life change is good - not this time, it has definitely degraded the user experience.
What a sh*t is this new version. Got me surprised on one of my stores. Nothing compared to the previous one NOTHING, missing valuable data which i need to dig into "analytics" in order to see now.
How is wasting my time making a good UI?
Agree 100%. I hate the new UX and the fact that it came unexpectedly. Why would they get rid of the default subgrid on the right side? The one that would allow you to toggle date ranges and sales channels? This was a simple yet extremely useful tool and it is now gone. I don't even see how I cam replicate this using the new UI. Just horrible!
Edit: I am not a plus merchant so I received this as well without asking. I log in at night and the dashboard was different from earlier in the day.
Not just the dashboard but the editor suffered from it too. We just get this and the team's feedback is really negative. Now you have to sort every settings change in a cramped settings on the left hand jump-in/jump-out style menu no matter how wide your screen.
Dear Shopify. Its an admin panel, you don't need to make it slick and compact with a lots of empty white space please.
Agreed. Terrible update. It looks worse, is more difficult to navigate, and most impactful to me for the 25+ shops I run: it doesn't allow for detailed earnings comparisons at a glance/top level of the UI. Having to dig into the Analytics tab to see what was previously home page information is just making the user do more work. What an awful decision -- and with no option to switch between dashboards and no communication about the update? I can only hope everyone gets up at arms about this and puts enough pressure through Tweets and Threads to get some action taken (though I'm not holding my breath).
I sent a help request to Shopify in hopes that someone will read the messages here and give us an option for the old or new homepage.
I have reached out to support as well. They said this was the way it will be and there is no roll back option at this moment. However, I have stressed the importance of this to our workflow and they are making a "case" for me to another team, so we are waiting to hear back.
Totally agree! I have just logged in and my heart sank, I thought something had gone terribly wrong and started to panic until I realised it was the Summer 23 "update"
No doubt we will eventually get used to it, but I cannot see how it is an improvement on the old layout
Absolutely agree. Shopify seem to have taken the app home page and applied it to the desktop. Loads of wasted space on the screen and 3 simple areas that are utterly devoid of useful information: a nonsensical graph, something showing our 3 most viewed products (useless when you're a business making bespoke made-to-order products!) and another area showing 3 social media channel referrals. And nothing else whatsoever. Who on earth advised that this approach would be of any use to small businesses, most of whom do not have a dedicated admin team to produce sales reports etc? We need everything salient in one place, or one easy click away. Or at the very least the ability to add information blocks to create our own home page. I have no idea how to even locate the information that used to appear on the old home page, which shows how reliant we became on it!
Please roll this mistaken mess back, Shopify. The page is so useless it might as well not even be there!
i agree 100% .. needs an option to be switched back
100% agree. I want access to the old dashboard. This one sucks.
I 1000000% agree. This update sucks. I want to compare the same days of the week from weeks past and can't do it now. Shopify.... let us switch back to the old dashboard. More useful information in the old dashboard.
100% agree, It's like going back in progress...
It seems to me, Shopify continues to get worse instead of better. The Live View went from good to bad, and now it is gone, replaced with some ridiculous, hard-to-read graph. Stop messing with the things no one is requesting and work on simple things like blog responses!
100% agree. I do not like the new updated dashboard. How do I switch back???
I want to switch back but can't find how to. Why was it changed? Who asked them to change it? It was fine before!
Hey, I contacted support and asked them to change it back. If enough of us contact them, can't imagine they'll keep the new, crappy layout.
who signed off on these ball breaking changes anyway? that person must be a lizard button pusher and never once talked to any real retail business operators. roll the f*ck back on the previous home dashboard! any other lizards asked for a home dashboard change? no! stop messing with things which work great!
Garbage. If you want to give the overpaid useful idiots something to do, fine. But give us the option to keep what was working for us! Why is there no option to keep the classic layout?! Is this about YOU Shopify - or the customer?!
I contacted support as well and there isn't an option to change it back. The support agent collected my feedback and I let them know everything I felt was wrong. She showed me where some of the old data resides in the analytics page however I shouldn't have to dig around for something that was previously presented to me in a clear and concise manner upon log in. The section on the right with the data was the very first thing I would look at.
There is an article the the UX team posted that details the changes. The article explains their thought process and even states that they did some testing with customers. They wanted to make the buttons more "realistic", highlight the tools merchants use daily, and make the admin page "less boring". They already failed because the tool I used daily was removed from the homepage. The article has a comment section as well.

Thanks for sharing. Now I have to sign up for an account to reply to that article.
As a designer and marketer myself, the article reminds me of being in school and coming up with flowery language to cover up the fact that I just went with what I thought looked cool. They clearly prioritized form over function.
Here is another place you can go to express your thoughts and frustrations about this change. This link was posted in another thread on this topic here in the Shopify Community.

I 1000% agree. The old dashboard was given info what I used everyday. This new rubbish is horrible and does not provide adequate information. All useful info is hidden for digging and consume extra time made everything more complicated.
1000% Agree. Shopify, please change it back!
That random screenshot! I miss it so much already! I've been liking people's posts about it and commenting as much as possible on here. Anything has got to help get their attention and make it known that this was not a good decision for their user base. I saw elsewhere that people are writing support tickets because that supposedly gets feedback to the developers better than anything else.
Also, in two days, this has become one of the most-liked posts on this forum. That should tell @Shopify everything they need to know about their customers' thoughts on this "update".
Could not agree more! They keep "fixing" what's not broken with worse and worse versions. Clearly these things are not created by people who have ever run a business and know what we need. I still horribly miss the old live view that actually provided information instead of some stupid, worthless map. What a crock. And right after their prices just jumped a HUGE amount and the "help" gets less and less helpful. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL do they ever listen to us or CARE?! These kind of hurtful changes make NO sense and I am seriously looking at other platforms that use more common sense. Dammit this makes me UPSET
Totally agree!! This new home dashboard is useless and creates more work by having to go dig for the information that was previously right in front of you. Everyone contact tech support and while you're at it, please ask for them to reinstate the permanent search bar at the top of the product and inventory pages PLEASE!!! Another cumbersome and time consuming change that was a complete fail in my opinion.
Agree absolutely the new page is a total loss of information. Shopify - please address! Can we go back to old screen?
I'm glad I'm not the only one to have a problem with this new view. Change is sometime difficult but this one is straight up dumb! My view doesn't even update in real-time, I have refresh my browser or navigate to another page.
100% Agree. This change is causing more harm than help. They'll never revert it or give us the option to revert. But they've already made some basic changes since the rollout (they added a pull down to choose sales channels for the home page analytics) so that's a start. But there is so much more to fix (date pull down should allow for choosing custom dates, need to be able to choose custom comparison dates, we need a revenue vs returns breakdown, sales by channel breakdown, etc...). Just give us our right nav bar back and you can keep your fancy new 12pt font and rounded corners UI. I couldn't care less about a new admin UI, but changing the home page analytics was a major mistake that needs to be corrected immediately.
