All things Shopify and commerce
I don't like the look of the new one at all, and losing the secondary element on the side that allowed you to compare to yesterday other other past periods of time is not ideal.
Edit: Spoke with a support rep and apparently the new dashboard was rolled out to all Plus Merchants worldwide - yikes. Imagine upgrading to Plus and immediately being greeted by a worse version of your dashboard.
The Home Dashboard should be designed around the "Glance" philosophy. By that I mean if you open your Shopify because you have 20 seconds before someone joins your call, you should be able to get sales, orders, and sessions at a GLANCE, not a squint.
I don't have a picture of what my dashboard looked like prior to today because that'd be a pretty random screenshot, but I found this one online.
It has sales and sessions in bold font, with orders directly below that. If you glance at the page, your eye is immediately drawn to it. It also shows sales clearly from the previous day or whatever period you set it to. The bar graph is clear and immediately communicates the relevant info regarding what hours of the day your site performed best.
Compare that to the current version which is the complete inverse. No tab showing previous data, a confusing line graph showing seemingly minute by minute data with curves (idk about you, but our org doesn't care about time nearly as much as this new dashboard seems to think...) The text is tiny, and just overall it's substantially less useful than the previous iteration.
The fact that we can't roll it back is a major bummer, and I'm really hoping Shopify rolls it back for everybody or at least lets individual stores make that decision. Our team has our workflow with Shopify, and didn't have any issues with the previous iteration.
I agree with everyone. This changed dashboar is bot only completely worthless but will make my job much harder. Now there is no place where I have access to everything.
We are a small store that sells exclusive and somewhat expensive items. We don't have a high daily volume. Knowing what is going on minute by minute, or even hour by hour is totally useless.
The old dashboard was perfect for our needs. Now It will take me many minutes instead of a few seconds to get where I need to be.
They already had messed up the orders page, now the dashboard is even worse.
Why make a platform less efficient?
The kind of info that is now on the dashboard is the kind employees don't need to see, the kind that is not usefull in filling orders, the kind that makes no sense on a dashboard.
Come on Shopify. You are hurting the efficency of our business.
Give us a toggle to go back to the old view, this one is absolutely worthless.
I also AGREE 100% with ALL of this!
I agree as well. Shopify keeps making changes to the look and feel of the backend without actually improving on anything. First it was annoying to have the search bar hidden on order views page and products, etc. You now have to actually click to search. Thanks, one more step. And now this dashboard view is a mess. Much prefer the old dashboard. And why are all the buttons so tiny now. Everything looks like a 1997 internet page. Please stop changing the look and feel. Us store owners need to be able to get used to one dashboard that works and we know where to quickly glance for what we need. The fact you keep changing everything makes it absolutely worthless.
There is literally nothing I can point to in these recent updates that has made my store ownership easier or faster to manage.
Also please bring back the Shopify Plus overview where I can see total revenue for all my stores. What happened to all that?!
someone in the forums previously pointed out a shortcut for the search field, when the page is loaded, press 'f' to bring up the search field and immediately type your search term. doesn't work if you have caps lock on.
shopify, how about producing a TLDR guide on helpful shortcuts that's actually useful for business owners?
also, how about sending a quick beta tests to store owners to gauge if any of your shocking changes actually do any good?
Oh my gosh; thank you so much for the shortcut! Was not aware of it!! Thank you!
in anycase, talking about the missing feature here isn't gonna cut it. make it known to shopify is key, submit a request, ask for it through the support chat, put in a vote on their shopify update video on youtube. make your voice count.
One wonders what kind of a lunatic is heading up the product development department?? It is hard to imagine a more myopic dweeb who first adds an extra step to the products and customers pages ... forcing an extra click to open up the search field ... which is the only reason you call up these pages (strike one)! Then the developers completely re-design the homepage dashboard and replaces all the useful bits with useless graphs and sales totals that only display rounded amounts to a single decimal (strike two, three, four, five ...). They have created a dashboard that is completely useless to their clients - and now I am on the hunt for a new POS system. Disgraceful!!!
Also, it looks like the update screwed up some things bc my live view is completely scrambled...The world map isn't loading and it's all smooshed to one side. The support agent I contacted was being really rude and saying they "can't tell" what's wrong because my screenshot is "too small"....And that everything looks fine on their end. I even tried different browsers. 🤔 Completely unhelpful.
1000% agree. It is frankly useless as it is today. A bunch of white space and no real useable on-the-fly data. Why why why did they make such a senseless change. The old dashboard was a brilliant quick look for our team... When I shared with help desk what I needed on the dashboard, they led me to a bunch of other sections.. Hello! No, we need it all in one place (on the first page). I really hope they listen to the community and give us options. I'd love to see it returned or at least an option to customize the dashboard to what WE deem necessary.. not Shopify's opinion of what we need. Fingers crossed.
I don't know about everyone else, but we just love hanging out in the analytics all day just to get the basics that used to be on the dashboard. This is ridiculous. Someone needs a demotion. Seriously.
For us, losing the to-the-penny sales totals on the Home page is a HUGE hassle. We keep a daily spreadsheet of sales breakdowns by channel and customer conversions and now we have to dig through the Analytics pages to find the exact totals where they used to be right on the Home page. Why Shopify, why? Is there any way to change this?
This is an awful 'upgrade'. Shopify please revert to the previous dashboard...or allow customers the choice to revert...as if this issue isn't resolved I for one will be looking for an alternative platform when my current contract is up.
Why would they give us LESS information on the Home dashboard? And why is Sessions the priority? It even has a report button when Total Sales doesn't. Shopify...my SALES are my priority. 😤
After about a half a dozen live support chat requests to be reverted back to the old admin home page, I came into the office this morning to find that i got reverted BACK!!! (for one of my clients at least) We're on Shopify Plus, so I'm not sure if they'll allow non-plus stores to be reverted, but it's worth asking. Live chat support was well aware of this issue and I was able to get "on a list" of people who need to be reverted back, but they couldn't get me a timeline. This morning, all my info is back, just like it used to be! Although, they did tell me if they did revert me, it'll be "temporary, while the work on updating the new admin home page and analytics dashboar).
So hop on that live chat, explain to them how this new admin home page is actually costing you money by having to spend time running daily individual reports for things like: Online Store Total Product Sales (after discount, before returns, tax and shipping), top products (by sales channel), ability to view and compare custom dates, etc... Good luck!
NICE! Hopefully this is the first of many who have their dashboards reverted.
I've complained over chat multiple times as well. I had another issue being worked on (unrelated) and would always bring this up when asked if there was something else they could help me with.
The last agent I spoke to did mention that others are complaining as well and they would relay this to the dev team. I mentioned it's not the dev team that the complaint has to go to, the devs will build what they're asked to build. It's whomever is the decision maker that needs to see these complaints (UI/UX Director? Product Owner?). I wasn't told I would be added to a list but then again I'm not a plus member. Hopefully they will allow all the revert back, this is by far the worst "update" shopify has released.
To be honest this is by far the most ridiculous idiotic upgrade in Shopify history. I have no idea what moron thought this was a great idea! These people are total idiots and never even ask the merchants what works for them or not, do research or focus groups. Honestly what cretin thought that making things so overly complicated would make our lives easier?? I said that to shopify support and was warned to stop insulting the tech team, well if the tech team are total morons, how is this my fault. These people should get out of their bedrooms and get a life. Seriously!!!
I totally agree, the new home screen has way less info and is so small.
Just here to say roll it back. It doesn't auto update does it? I find myself coming back to the computer thinking man... Sales are sucking.
I guess I can try to leave it in the live visitors screen for now...
Me too hate, hate hate the new Shopify home.... I do not want it, how can I change it back, been trying to contact Shopify support but the support chat fails so getting nowhere. I want to see what pages my visitors are going too on Shopify home.... not have to look everywhere for it.
Please Shopify change it back or at least give us the option to ad what info we want to Shopify home....Please.
late than never! shopify is collecting feedback through emails, please let your voices be heard and let them know! done with the feedback, hope they do something about their untested, unwelcomed, knee jerk rollouts.
Our team does not like this update either. Please change it back or give us the options
The new dashboard is absolutely horrible. I can't see useful information at all like in the old dashboard. The loss of the right-hand sidebar is a significant loss in insight, and the new line charts are completely worthless. The UX team should be fired.
100% agree! Also with the new crap dashboard we can no longer view the amount of abandoned carts and checkouts, which is possibly a deliberate move by Shopify as lots of merchants are pee'd off that a high volume of failed checkouts are due to their poor coding resulting in checkout not working for many customers that use older versions of safari browser!
It seems that Shopify can't stop meddling with things that don't need fixing, but when things really do need fixing they don't bother!
The overview is gone with this downgrade. I've stopped using the desktop dashboard page since it has changed, because it has become useless.
My tip is download the green shopify app and the dashboard looks more or less like to old version. You see your total sales, you still have to click if you have more locations to get the sales info seperately. And pay-out is two click away. Not ideal, but maybe Shopify will return to a user friendly dashboard.
The changes are horrible. We are actually looking in to lightspeed because of it, nothing loads correctly and the numbers are always off for sales and traffic. you have to click into it to get the correct info.
Agreed. I don't know why they thought that this layout would be better. It's terrible and adds more steps to find simple information.
On top of making usgo hunting for the info we need, I notice that this week they have changed the analytics yet again. The graphs that were previously horizontal are now vertical, which makes them much more difficult to read. It seems like shopify just want to change things for the sake of it rather than for any actual practical useful reason, and without any consultation with the people who use them. They obviously don't like or respect their store owners much.
I am yet another customer who agrees the new dashboard is TERRIBLE. Is this the the new cruelty treatment? They develop it in sh•ttier fashion so we can experience pain. I am bracing myself for Shopify to roll out a PAID add-on just so we can get accurate information.
Bumping this - I miss the old layout, I'm still fighting with this new one on a daily basis to see what I want. I simply don't understand what they're doing over there sometimes, half of the updates we've received in 2023 for Shopify Plus have been massive downgrades to ease of workflow within the interface. They really need some better management/guidance regarding what their user base actually wants, not what they think we all need.
I can't read this thing. WTH.
Using this new layout just keeps getting worse. The graphs on the analytics page are completely inconsistent and so hard to read. Some are vertical, some are horizontal, and some are circular. How bad do the designers have to be for shopify to hire them? It must be a requirement on their CV to be really poor at design....(incidentally, my son was failed in a web design assignment at university 20 years ago for making that kind of mistake...)
I chatted to Plus Support about this, and got this response: "We made the changes to the Plus overview due to feedback we received from our Plus merchants. I do assure you that your feedback will be taken into account by our Development teams. I'll be sure to let them know how useful the Plus overview was for your workflow." - who on earth would have said to take it away!
To be fair they asked them, "do you choose this dashboard or do you choose death?"
That's just a BS response to get people off their backs. Just look at the forums around this change. I've yet to see a single user say anything along the lines of, "this new dashboard is great!" It's been the complete opposite. Everyone at my office hates the new dashboard. They don't make a lot of these changes based on feedback, I can assure you. It's classic enshittification. It's just unfortunate this is finally happening at Shopify, and poses a bigger issue for all of the merchants using their services.
Has anybody looked through the migration kit for Shopify Plus to B2B? It's a mess.
The Shopify admin UI experience even a year ago was better than what it is today, I'd imagine the vast majority of the community would agree with that sentiment.
I agree 100% with what you said. I have not seen a single post saying the dashboard is great. On the YouTube videos, and the blog posts they get praises but the praises are NOT from business users, they are from other UI designers. Other UI designers may think this looks great but actual business users think its a crap experience.
I hate the new experience and I would switch to another platform if I had the time to search for a better alternative. The old dashboard had all the information WE want in a snapshot. The new dashboard doesnt have it at all and we have to go look at different graphs under analytics. The UI/UE designers need to get their heads out of their asses and see that actual business users hate this experience. Shopify will lose customers once a better experience is found and word gets out.
Totally agree! So disappointed and, frankly, PO'd to see this taken away! Why do developers always remove the most helpful things, ostensibly to create a false sense of 'new and improved', but is always worse for shops.
Dear shopify
If these things keep showing up on my feeds that I clearly don't want, I will just disable payments and handle all of my transactions externally. I've decided I will not pay you the $200 & something until you stop putting shit on my feed which I've dismissed and supposedly I won't see again, yet I dismiss it 10 times a day?!!? Get a clue. You will not control me. Limit my website in any way, I'll leave. Please, for the last time, fix this!!!! Wtf
Thx bob) 💙
I see your screenshots, but I couldn't tell which part of the dashboard you are trying to hide. Thank you for clarifying that. If you don't want to see this I recommend dismissing it and submitting your feedback as to why. There isn't any other way to remove this. Suggestions like this are a part of the Shopify admin homepage, but it is just a suggestion so you don't need to hire a Shopify Partner if you don't want to. I'm happy to pass along your feedback about this as well, but I can't guarantee you will never see this card again. -Erin
REPEAT; I have dismissed it about 100, ONE HUNDRED!, times now!!?? Have left plenty of feedback! This is MY WEBSITE I pay you monthly for, I should be able to see what I WANT on MY WEBSITE! NOT what you're trying to ram down my throat!? Do you agree?? Yes, please pass it on. I'm the meantime, I will disable my payments until it stops showing up and my annoyance will become your financial loss. Have a lovely day Erin! 😁💙
It’s horrible. Can’t work with this. Please fix somehow.
Hello, @Jcf!
Thanks for joining this thread. I can understand how the update has affected some of our merchants. You've mentioned you would like to revert to the old view and I can understand this. We appreciate this feedback at Shopify.
As this is not something I can revert, I will submit this feedback for our developers to review. Thank you!

Now we have another issue - this week every time I go to my dashboard it reverts to last 30 days stats. I don't want that. I want TODAY. I change it back, but next time I go in it's back at 30 days. I am so sick of not being able to see what I want at a glance. Shopify sux big time. Pass that on to your developers.
Latest app update is awful, it gets worse and worse every time. Stats are woefully inaccurate now also which can cause you to make unnecessary changes. For example today I have 7 individual orders, but stats show I have only had 3 visitors! How can that be?
Right now the three things I'm tracking
I am not happy with the current look as well. It was PERFECT before. It should at least give store owners the option. We should also be able to customize a color or two.
I have read so many of these comments from 2023- with a sinking heart! My view was changed just last month, to this new ridiculous avg line view, away from the very useful bar graph. If they are still doing this in March 2024 then they definitely didn't listen to anybody. If anyone knows of any updates I haven't come across, where I can select to go back to my previous view of bar graph, please please let me know. I will continue to dig around, but it doesn't look good. Please shopify, fix this.
ty bro helped me a lot, They should have their customers test the new updates before going live.
Don't waste your breath, they've shown they do not care whatsoever. Shopify raised their pricing by a huge amount as they continue to take away all the features that we know and love to use every day, without asking us for an opinion or giving us a choice. Their last few changes have reshaped how I do business, I don't even look at my dashboard anymore, it's useless to me. I loved Shopify once upon a time, when you could actually reach an english speaking person who knew how to resolve your issues. But their actions in recent years proves they do not give a single damn about their customers.
Yes me too I always used to go straight to dashboard now i never do anymore. Dissapointment.
