as to translation on SHOP channel

hello.
My store's default language is Japanese.
My products are listed in Japanese, and I use a translation app to translate them into English and other languages for international sales.
I also sell on the SHOP channel. Can customers from other countries view the translated product information in the SHOP app?

Hi @wealthlly

Great question, and I totally see where you're coming from. Since your store’s default language is Japanese and you’re using a translation app for international customers, you’re wondering if those translations carry over to the Shop app.

Here’s the deal: Right now, the Shop app primarily displays product information in your store’s default language—which in your case is Japanese. However, if your store supports multiple languages via Shopify’s built-in Markets feature and you’ve properly configured translations through Shopify's native translation system (Translate & Adapt app or third-party apps that use Shopify's Translations API), then customers might see the translated content if their device and region match a supported language.

How to ensure translations work on the Shop app:

  1. Use Shopify’s Translations API-supported apps – Apps like Translate & Adapt or Langify ensure that translations are stored within Shopify’s system, making them accessible across different Shopify services, including the Shop app.
  2. Check your Shopify Markets setup – Go to Settings > Markets and make sure you’ve enabled multiple languages and added the correct translations.
  3. Test it yourself – Open the Shop app on a device set to English (or another language you support), and check if the translations show up. If the product info is still in Japanese, it likely means the Shop app isn’t pulling in the translated content.

Important Limitations:

  • Some third-party translation apps only modify the storefront but don’t use Shopify’s translation system, meaning the Shop app won’t recognize them.
  • If the Shop app doesn't display the translated text, your customers may only see the Japanese product info, unless Shopify updates its multi-language support further.

If your translations aren’t appearing in the Shop app, I’d recommend switching to Translate & Adapt or another Shopify-integrated translation tool. That should do the trick!

If you need extra help, just let me know asap. Thanks
Daisy.
