Auto-add to basket on discount code

How do I make discount codes automatically add a free product to the basket so the user does not have to manually find the product first?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with Buy X, Get Y discounts, to ensure this gets resolved. To share some insight, both discount codes and automatic discounts that provide a "get" item to customers come with a few limitations. 

Currently, Buy X, Get Y discounts will require all items to be manually added to the cart in order to apply at checkout. As I can completely understand how this may not be ideal, I'm more than happy to share this note with our Developers. We are always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate the feedback. 

To workaround this however, you can check out the Shopify App Store for an available discount app that may allow you to achieve this. For ease, I've gone ahead and suggested a few available apps that may allow for this to be completed: 

• EasyGift: Auto Add to Cart
• CartBot: Auto add to cart
• Automatic Free Gifts

Hey Blair, none of these solves the issue.

I dug into it and can see a lot of both apps and users have this problem. Can you confirm if this function is even accessible to apps? It does not seem to be the case.

Thank you for the prompt response. I can confirm that this is a limitation of Buy X, Get Y discounts within Shopify. As for apps, this is something you would want to ask them directly. As they are considered to be third-party apps, I would not be able to provide that confirmation.

How do we get this fixed quicker by Shopify. My previous e-commerce provider (BigCommerce) made it real simple. When creating the discount code there was a check box for (if item is not in cart add item to cart) Should be a pretty simple couple lines of code that would make a lot of shop owners and their customers happy.

At this time, we have no updates to provide regarding when the ability to have a product automatically added to the cart based on a provided discount code will be made available. With that being said, I've gone ahead and passed your desire for this functionality along to our developers for their consideration in the future. For now, I recommend referring to the several of our Third Party Apps that you can add to your store to achieve this functionality.

Has this been solved yet??? The Buy X Get Y functionality with a code doesn't make sense if it doesn't add the product to cart automatically??  It's a basic requirement.

I'm also looking for this functionality. None of the third part apps that you linked to add a product to the basket when a discont code is entered.

Can you point me to a specifit app that does this as I've gone through everything I could find and come up with nothing.

How has this still not been added to shopify? So many people ask for this feature, yet you guys keep saying, "we'll pass it along to the developers", after which nothing happens. You guys keep promoting 3rd party apps and more just to try and gain more revenue from us. You do not care about your customers, which worries me the most.

Just add the function to shopify. This is one of many functions your customers have been begging you to add to shopify.

Nathan here, the product manager of EG Auto Add to Cart. We do not offer this functionality, please remove us from that list. We are getting inundated with requests for this because of your post.

Many of the responses in the Shopify community seem A I generated and have not a single shred of depth to them. 

Plus, they don't even solve the problems / try to solve for it.
